Can anyone imagine what our military presence and exposure would look like if we actually sent troops to every place John McCain advocated sending troops? They’d be fighting in half the countries in the world at this point and our military budget would probably have to be 2 or 3 trillion a year.

Boots on the ground to fight the IS means boots on the ground to support some other Islamist group, and then it will mean boots on the ground to fight that group, and support another group in the future. Christians and other non Islamic minorities have already been run off, killed off, or enslaved. Bomb the whole damn mess, and be done with it.
To the extent that the Kurds seem to function on a different level than most Muslims, it is agreeable to help them kill off the IS.
