Governor Andrew Cuomo, seriously hoping that Hillary loses in ’16, so he can run in ’20, has another brilliant new proposal. He told Sharpton that he’s going to have the highest minimum wage in the country.
Gov. Cuomo vowed Sunday to boost the city’s minimum wage to $11.50 an hour and nudge it to $10.50 an hour for workers in the rest of the state, in an anti-poverty plan that is the centerpiece of his economic agenda.
But Business Council CEO Heather Briccetti said raising the wage again would “create a drag on job creation” for entry level positions.
“The end result will be fewer jobs created and potential job losses that will adversely impact both small businesses and entry-level workers,” she said.
And state Working Families Party leader Bill Lipton panned the increase as not high enough, saying it was “nearly impossible” to raise a family on $12 or even $13 an hour.
“If Gov. Cuomo really wants to be a bold leader in the fight against inequality, this is his golden opportunity,” he said.
Flavia Cabral, a member of the SEIU-supported group Fast Food Forward, called Cuomo’s announcement “a step in the right direction,” but added that it “does not go far enough to help me afford rent and clothing and groceries for my two kids every month.”
“The reason that cities all over the nation are moving towards $15 is because that’s what it costs to make ends meet in a big city today,” Cabral says. “My coworkers at McDonald’s and me know that it takes at least $15 an hour to support our families.”
Great.
Considering that fast food places, especially those that like McD’s sell meat, are already struggling due to Obama’s food prices, having to double wages would finish them off.
But why not make the minimum wage a billion dollars an hour since few people will see it anyway?
Waiters in the city work for tips. The minimum wage doesn’t apply to them. Most nannies and quite a few low wage workers get paid off the books. All this will do is increase the number of employees being paid off the books.
Cuomo isn’t even pretending to do anything except toot his own horn.
Cuomo is trying to divest New York of non government employers.
It is a good, serious exercise to consider why government politicians do not set the minimum wage to be a billion dollars per hour.
Why not $1,000,000,000 an hour? Seriously, what are the reasons?
Well then, why not $500,000,000 an hour? Seriously, what are the specific, actual reasons?
Why not a million per hour?
Do you EVER get to a point where the real reason that a billion dollars an hour does not work is a different reason that $20 an hour does not work?
Liberals see businesses as they see government, a bottomless pit of money.
Repeal the minimum wage.
Not really do the math. a 10% increase in minimum wage would translate into a 4 cent/dollar increase in retail price. So a hamburger costing $3.00 would cost $3.12. Ok an increase but not earth shattering.
Better yet why not see how raising it works in the states that raised it compared to those that didn't before the Federal government forces the policy on all states (as it did with Obama0care)?
There is a big difference between a billion $$$ and a few $ so that rhetorical line of reasoning is not going to change anyone's minds. .
See, this is what is wrong with Republicans and Conservatives.

I’d like to know why, 100% of the time any idiot polititian makes an announcement like this, that NO ONE, not ONE person in the room will ask the question.

Rush made an excellent point yesterday - that we no longer have real media. It’s the death of this nation.
First of all, the government does not have the right to set salaries.
Second, the people are stupid if they think that raising the minimum hourly rate (not the “minimum wage”) is a good practice.
“So a hamburger costing $3.00 would cost $3.12.”
But the demand for the burgers won’t increase, so you either leave your prices stable and lose profits, increase your prices and lose sales, or decrease your workforce and punt the losses off to them. Which do you think business owners will choose?
Since the Chamber of Slavery is against it, I am for it.

Look it is OK to be against the minimum wage, but the economic ignorance thrown around here makes Freepers look stupid. If hamburger meat doubles do they go out of business? What if buns go from 6 cent apiece to 9 cents apace does the owner sell his lake house?
