Why We Think Paid Leave Is a Worker's Right, Not a Privilege [VJ at linkedin.com]

Anyone who has ever faced the challenge of raising or supporting a family, while holding down a job, has faced tough choices along the way, and likely felt stretched between the financial and personal needs of their family.

...

So on Thursday, President Obama will call on Congress to pass the Healthy Families Act, which would allow millions of working Americans to earn up to seven days a year of paid sick time — and call on states and cities to pass similar laws. The President will outline a new plan to help states create paid leave programs, and provide new funding through the Department of Labor for feasibility studies that will help other states and municipalities figure out the best way to implement programs of their own. And the President will sign a Presidential Memorandum that will ensure federal employees have access to at least 6 weeks of paid sick leave when a new child arrives and propose that Congress offer 6 weeks of paid administrative leave as well.

Via linkedin.com, the premier brain fodder channel running from our master elites to the lowly managers who run businesses and those scrappy little sheeple who aspire to be the same.

Of course this was published widely, but I find the publication at linkedin.com particularly interesting.

What I find interesting are the comments of said managers and sheeple - they are too good to be missed.

Comments like this from Matthew Good:

"This story has been viewed over 181,000 times with just over 1,000 likes...you do the math on the approval rating. While it is a great utopian concept, it would surely be abused to no end and cause employers more money and headaches."

They go on and on...

My take on this; someone needs to reach all those people. Though many may have mindlessly followed and voted for Obama - and they simply have not yet completely figured out that they are working for new world order, and what new world order is actually all about - they still are amenable to some semblance of logical discourse and thought.

linkedin members - come to the FRESH AIR of Free Republic if you favor legitimate free enterprise as opposed to corrupted free enterprise, or what is known as globalism / new world order.

Is this the opinion of the “LinkedIn” leadership or is this an article written by Obama’s boss Valerie posted on the site?

We think a worker has a right to sit at home, do nothing, and still get paid for it. Because employers are the caretakers of their employees, and hire them so they can be coddled and protected, not so they can perform any tangible job duties that make the employer money. — VJ

If it's a right, why is a law required?

I think the word does not mean what she thinks it means.

This is released under VJ’s name in many publications, i.e., it’s her article, published widely, linkedin was just one outlet.

And the people on Linkedin are predominantly Leftists, thinking that they’re corporate creatures of capitalism - their interest sections and social links belie that.

I know, instead of creating MORE problems for private industry, how bout we focus on improving the economy to the point that families won’t have to stretch their income nearly as much? Is that really too much common sense for the mainstream to process? Idiots that already get paid far too much is what they are.

This is the very first place we're breaking this news because you're in the best position to drive change.

Bolded and italicized in the article by ValJar, the Bat Lady.

On top of $65-100 billion for free community college, this is ludicrous.

The only change that needs to be driven is a change in those who inhabit the White House.

I remember when the original FMLA passed under Clinton, Rush said, “You watch, eventually they will demand it be with pay.”

That’s how it is with liberals, they never stop, once the camel’s nose is in the tent.

I think the word does not mean what she thinks it means.

Progressives co-opted the term "rights" to refer to entitlements, so much so that in rights theory what used to be called rights are now called "negative rights," and what should be called entitlements are now called "positive rights." When the government wants to give you things ("a right to health care," "a right to an education," "a right to paid leave for [fill in]"), that is called a "right" but it isn't a right in the sense of the right to life, liberty, property, or the pursuit of happiness (eudemonia), because those rights don't require anyone to pay for anything for you, only that they stay out of your way and let you live, or make your own choices, or keep what you own, or put together the best life you can work for throughout your life.

We think everything is a right not a privilege. Workers think their employers owe them healthcare including mental health counseling, drug rehab, vacation, paid leave, breaks, a living wage etc, etc.

If you don’t like your job, or what your employer offers, you are free to work elsewhere.

“Anyone who has ever faced the challenge of raising or supporting a family, while holding down a job, has faced tough choices along the way, and likely felt stretched between the financial and personal needs of their family. “

Anyone who has ever faced the challenge of starting or supporting a company, while holding down a job and maintaining the people working in that company, has faced tough choices along the way, and likely felt stretched between the financial and regulatory needs of their company vs the taxation and welfare support required by the federal, state, and local governments.

Sounds a little different that way, doesn’t it?

So. Are Valerie Jarrett and Obola going to mandate that all workers in the country suddenly going to become 4% more efficient and effective workers so they produce just as much while working 2 weeks less each year?

That’s gonna leave a mark. Ouch !

And we have little lemmings like this, parroting the financial elites’ Socialist party line:

Freelance IT professional
“It’s quite amazing how limited workers rights are in the USA, I think that only republican business owners would think this is a socialist entitlement, no offence to the people who are against this sort of regulations, but you don’t own your employees, and if not for government interventions, maybe you’d still have actual slavery.”

The people on LinkedIn are all over the political spectrum, and I've seen little on LinkedIn that hints of politics. It's mostly business, technical, and professional people networking to maintain and further their careers and/or businesses.

That's actually capitalist behavior.
