Lines are swelling at Venezuelan supermarkets, with some shoppers showing up before dawn in search of products ranging from chicken to laundry detergent, as a holiday slowdown in deliveries sharpened the nation's nagging product shortages.

Queues snaked around the block at grocery stores and pharmacies around the country on Friday, with consumers in some cases gathering before dawn under the gaze of National Guard troops posted to maintain order.

Business leaders have assured Venezuelans the situation will improve in the coming days as distributors return from the often extended Christmas holidays, though many consumers blamed the socialist economic policies of President Nicolas Maduro.

I just took the Metamucil Five-Day Challenge, and now I feel emptier than a Venezuelan Costco.

Unless we turn things around soon, this country is on target for the same. People lured into chains for the offer of free stuff...

Lived there in the 1970's. Both water and electricity were iffy and trying to reach an overseas operator was an all day project.

But there was food.

There was lots of food.

Reminiscent of the old USSR - their bread must have been so good that people would stand in line for hours to buy it; now Venezuela is experiencing the same privileges.

An entire building of emptied shelves...

...except for those 3 bottles and those 4 plastic tubs.

They must be really bad products.

A bunch of my family still lives there...I just corresponded with my cousin and they are having a tough time with the scarcity. My uncle used to say back in the day the nation allowed all sorts of European and other investment. Then they nationalized everything saying “Venezuela for the Venezuelans”. It was downhill from there.

Socialists. *spit*

We’ll follow soon enough. I’d better get those seeds ordered for the spring.

Have friends that were down there. One was an American who married Venezuelan lady. When things started turning bad he tried to leave only to find that while he could leave his wife and children could not. Finally ended up signing over the family business in exchange for exit visas.

Then the US consulate started cutting up rough.

Finally got the whole family out but they pretty much left with the clothes on their backs.

Starting over at 50 is rough but better then what they left.

Turn things around ?

Can't be done ... not without revolution

Even with obola gone ... all the embeds alone would maintain the momentum of destruction

No ... WE are on the spot right now

Our demise is ordered and printed ... not yet accomplished ... but enough in place to guarantee their victory or at least a sizable elimination of Norman Rockwell's America ... which, I believe, is most of us here in FR.

Hey, after he used passengers from British subways in an obamacare commercial, then Venezuela's shoppers should be free to use for the US middle class, right? What difference does it matter!

And they nationalized the oil company, fired the people that knew what they were doing, and hired political cronies to run the place.
