U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders reminds America ‘progressive’ means ‘socialist’

Sen. Bernie Sanders, an independent and self-described socialist from Vermont, inadvertently reminded America “progressive” is just another word for “socialist” ...

In his column, titled “Fight for Our Progressive Vision,” Sanders called for universal health care, increased government redistribution of wealth, limits on political speech, additional government action against “climate change,” $1 trillion in new infrastructure spending and

....

Meanwhile, in Sanders’s home state of Vermont, Democrat Gov. Peter Shumlin announced last month he was abandoning single-payer socialized medicine program Green Mountain Care because it was too expensive.

While Sanders is widely seen as a standard-bearer for progressive thought, it’s hardly a secret he’s a socialist.

....

Regardless of their ideological labeling, the policies promoted by Sanders would greatly expand government and reduce incentives for hard work from the people expected to foot the bill.

Yep. I violently disagree with pretty much everything he stands for, but at least he is honest enough to clearly identify who he is and what he stands for. If only other congresscritters would do the same.

Funny how a lot of Freepers will say, “well, at least he’s honest about it”. Big deal! A commies, a commies a commie. Being “honest” about it doesn’t make it ok. If anything, he should be that much easier to vote out. Not in the peoples republic of Vermont though. Never! They love him.

And of course, progressive, socialist, communist, liberal...et al...identify those who practice such things as low IQ folks who know nothing about work, economics, or creativity (real creativity, that is, not some silly writings believed only by other idiots).

Most leftists are smart enough to understand that they’ll never get the power to implement their agenda if people know what that agenda is.

It’s the left’s “taqiya”.

Conversely, Conservatives need to hammer the fact that the GOP is not a Conservative party what-so-ever.

The GOP is the liar party.

I'm glad Bernie did it, because my 'progressive' little brother will never admit it.

As a small “l” libertarian, I agree with some of old Bernie’s platform. Though it is not mentioned here, I think of him as a free speech absolutist, a steadfast opponent of the surveillance state and supporter of the right to privacy, and a non-interventionalist as it relates to our foreign adventures. I also believe our military has grown far beyond what is needed to maintain its place as number one on the planet. FAR beyond. It seems to me to be a high-tech jobs program and a tool for self-interested pol’s. And I also like the infrastructure investment he mentions. Though I’m not convinced $1 trillion is the right amount. But generally I would rather see some portion of money NOT spent on military but instead diverted to roads, bridges, dams, whatever. Also I, like Bernie, am against all corporate welfare and subsidies. ALL. I only wish my GOP elected officials were more “progressive” in these ways.

However, I am also against all individual welfare, which Bernie loves. And I think it is idiotic to spend more money on education. Next to expanding the surveillance state, more money on education is probably the most damaging thing I can imagine. It’s worse than a rathole. It’s downright destructive to our national psyche.

And I think socialized medicine is insanity. How did we ever get to the point where someone’s health care is everyone’s responsibility? Health care is the very definition of a “private” good. As opposed to a “public” good.

As others have said, I appreciate Bernie’s honesty. If I was a GOP elected leader I would work with him on the stuff I mentioned above, especially as it relates to dismantling the surveillance state apparatus our last three Administrations have utilized and expanded. He is overtly IDEOLOGICAL, which I happen to appreciate. On both sides! Makes it easier to find areas of cooperation. And areas to do battle. It’s the slimy self-interested scumbuckets like BONER that are hard to work with. Or ANY of the present DIM’s. Not nearly enough idealogy, IMO.

The Republican right-wing agenda -- tax breaks for the rich and large corporations, unfettered free trade, cuts to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, nutrition and virtually every other program that sustains working families and low-income people --

So that's the Republican agenda?

/Remember, conservatives are the true progressives. Socialists/Communists/Leftists aren’t progressive in any sense of the word.

You do bring up some good points though. Free speech, privacy, anti-corporate welfare—those are things ALL conservatives (and anyone on the Right) should stand behind—this is why I’m not a Republican—a pox on all their one-world, corporatist @$$e$!

Though there should be modest concessions for businesses and coroporations—only those which put ALL businesses on an equal footing—the rest is left to the free market. (No crony capitalism, period!)
