House of Commons Sergeant-At-Arms Kevin Vickers will be appointed Canadas new ambassador to Ireland, according to several media reports.
Vickers was hailed as a hero for his role in the Oct. 22 shooting in Centre Block on Parliament Hill and taking down lone gunman Michael Zehaf-Bibeau.
He has been credited with firing the final shot that killed Zehaf-Bibeau in a gun fight in the Hall of Honour near the Sergeant-at-Arms office. That was just outside the Library of Parliament entrance, down the hall from where the Conservative and NDP caucuses were holding their weekly meetings.
The sergeant-at-arms is responsible for security of the parliamentary precinct and those who work there, including, among other duties, controlling access to the House of Commons. The job is also ceremonial, requiring him to lead MPs into the House of Commons at each sitting with a heavy gold mace, the symbol of the Queens authority, on his shoulder.

Who do I gotta kill to get an ambassadorship around here?
Give lots of money to Obama.
You need to give a lot of money to Democrats.
Giving money to Democrats is the only qualification you need to be named an ambassador. Just ask the soap opera producer that Obama named as ambassador to Hungary.
