Huck’s Core Problem: His controversial history on Common Core
National Review ^ | January 8, 2015 | Andrew Johnson

Mike Huckabee’s once-loyal conservative base may not be there for him in 2016 if he chooses to run again, and his complicated history with Common Core could prove to be the biggest reason why.

A lot has changed since the former Arkansas governor last ran for president in 2008. Considered the conservative alternative to John McCain and Mitt Romney at the time, Huckabee enjoyed early success in the Republican primaries that year, winning the Iowa caucuses and a handful of primaries in his native South. He parlayed those victories into a popular weekly Fox News show, ensuring his continued public prominence as a conservative voice. While Huckabee — who announced over the weekend that he would leave the network to explore another potential run for the White House — hopes to broaden his appeal beyond the strong base of Evangelical voters who supported his last run, part of that base is threatening to desert him over disagreements on a number of suddenly contentious issues, including Common Core.

In theory Common Core is a very rational idea.
It’s just that absolutely nobody trusts the Federal Government to implement it.

Easy to say you agree in principle with the idea of national standards and yet still rail against Big Government.

National control of the education of our kids IS NEVER a GOOD IDEA!

Most of leftist boondoggles are couched in terms of intent, and that intent is inevitably framed as a “good”.

That’s why it’s intellectually lazy to support anything proposed by leftists.

“In theory Common Core is a very rational idea.”

It is exceedingly illogical to teach in Anchorage exactly what you teach in Miami. We are diverse because we think differently.

We need to get back to the basics. Children naturally want to learn, but our current system kills that desire and replaces it with being told what to think.

Common Core is wrong, and homeschooling is not an escape because testing and college entrance are being aligned to successfully completing a Common Core curriculum.

Huckabee made mistakes as Governor of Arkansas.

However, to equate a true Social Conservative like Huckabee with Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton is just plain wrong (an outright slanderous lie) and totally inconsistent with one calling themselves a “Servant of the Cross.” Which “Cross”....certainly NOT the one Jesus bled and died on? I suspect you just don’t like conservative evangelical Christians (in other words - REAL CHRISTIANS).

Don’t post trash like you did and dare to identify with the “Cross”...you aren’t a servant if you do. GOD IS A SOCIAL MORAL CONSERVATIVE. Curently, Huckabee (albeit flawed) is the ONLY one in contention with ANY chance.

Thank you for your kind Christian words.

Mike Huckabee's Big Government policies have much in common with Carter and Clinton. Here's Fred Thompson in a 2008 POTUS debate ...

The direction Governor Huckabee would take us in … liberal economic policies … liberal foreign policies … taxpayer funded programs for illegals … that’s not the model of the Reagan coalition, that’s the model of the democratic party.

You say that Mike Huckabee is a 'true Social Conservative'. I say he is a panderer to Social Conservatives and his actions don't always match his Christian words, which makes me upset with his televangelist persona. His campaign for POTUS is patterned after what someone would do if they were running for the Pastor of the US and that is just wrong.

"Mike Huckabee is a Christian socialist. He is a good man, but with a Big Government heart," Viguerie said in a news release late Thursday night. "He is the most liberal of all the Republican presidential candidates on economic issues."

Huckabee: Anybody with an IQ above Broccoli, knows I am a conservative

A plea from (an) Arkansas Christian conservative

I don’t want to use the word conspiracy, but …

TEN THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT MIKE HUCKABEE:

1. Soft-on-crime Governor who went on a pardon/commutation spree
2. Pro-instate-tuition for illegal aliens and other giveaways – poor record on immigration
3. Fiscal liberal Tax-and-spender as Governor
4. Dissembled about his record when challenged (pardons, taxes, ethics)
5. Not a conservative, hurt conservatives in Arkansas
6. Ethics issues, taking public money for private use
7. Flipflopper, on immigration, Cuba and other issues
8. An incompetent Jimmy Carteresque boob on foreign policy
9. Is a nanny-stater supporter of smoking bans and enviro-wacko CO2 caps
10. Fired the prosecutor who filed animal cruelty charges against his son David
