One of the suspects in the Paris attack on Charlie Hebdo magazine has been killed and the two others are in custody, a two senior U.S. counterterrorism officials told NBC News.

Authorities identified the three men as Said Kouachi and Cherif Kouachi, both French and in their early 30s, and 18-year-old Hamyd Mourad, whose nationality wasn't immediately clear.

One of the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to publicly discuss the investigation, told The Associated Press that the men were linked to a Yemeni terrorist network. And Cherif Kouachi was convicted in 2008 of terrorism charges for helping funnel fighters to Iraq's insurgency and sentenced to 18 months in prison.

This is just an example of rampant politicization of workplace violence!

Yes, we need to start doing stuff like that. Even though it is stupid, superstitious and childish, because that is the type of people we are dealing with.

Will this be the attack that changes things? I keep waiting for that one.

I hope this was it, but I wouldn’t bet any good money on it, I’m sorry to say.

There is no death penalty in most of Europe...too uncivilized.....thus 2 too many in custody

The French Special Gendarmerie are far from the surrender monkeys that people might think. They are well trained, hard line SF guys. I watched them wipe out the little SOB who murdered the Jewish children in Toulouse. He was in his apartment and they put 300 rounds into the place, and probably 30 into him as he tried to climb out the bathroom window.

It was wonderful hearing that on the TV live. I was in Paris watching it, shouting Gittum!

They know there will be no death penalty if it gets to the courts. Make your own conclusions.

Well at least they should be able to get information from the scumbags. How did they know their target(s) would be there for that meeting? Surely they were either directly supported in this operation or at least provided detailed training.

Seems I read they were born there.

I think that is correct. And a thousand in France have gone to fight for ISIS I think I heard too, they should not let any of them in. Heck, boot the families out too.

They were indeed on the radar.

At least one of today's killers was sentenced to three years in prison (with 18 months suspended) for trying to join 'Al Queda In Iraq' back in 2008.

I'm reading all this correctly, Cherif Kouachi was also arrested further back in 2005 for participating in a network funneling French jihadists to Iraq but they apparently let him go.

Here's an FR thread from 2005 covering the arrest of Cherif Kouachi:

FR Archives: 'Arrests keep young would-be French militants from Iraqi battlefields'
