Woman to woman: Stop hunting for a 'feminist boyfriend'
NY Daily News ^ | 7 Jan 2015 | S E Cupp

Lisa Bonos, Washington Post’s Outlook assistant editor, wants a boyfriend. A very specific type of boyfriend. And I'm not surprised she hasn’t yet found what she’s looking for.

Finding the perfect mate is hard enough as it is, without creating unattainable — in fact inadvisable — expectations.

And at least according to her recent piece, “How to Find a Feminist Boyfriend,” Bonos has imagined not only a man who probably doesn’t exist, but one that shouldn’t exist.

Her dreamed-of boyfriend is neither a true feminist, nor much of a boyfriend. And so woman to woman, I’d like to offer her some advice to save her a lifetime of disappointment and countless first dates at performances of “The Vagina Monologues.”

First, Bonos expects her feminist boyfriend to be well-versed in gender politics. He is “aware of the ways women have traditionally been held back . . . and actively pushes against that. He’s sensitive to the fact that women’s bodies are frequently judged, abused and legislated, and takes no part in that.”

Men need to stop dating women until they stop with the head games.

Save your money and sanity. You can still father kids in your 50s if you want.

The image of Pajama Boy comes to mind.

This is why so many American men have chosen to remain single. The gold-digging modern woman wants nothing but his money and his obedience…not a very attractive future.

I got lucky, I have had 2 such men in my life. And both are/were Christians. My late husband and my new husband. I thought 56 was to young to stay a lonely widow.

I get treated like a queen and I treat him as a king. He has to love kids, he had 4 grown ones, and together that is 6, we have together 7 grands and 5 great grands.

This is one woman that will never have a relationship with a man that also doesn’t like men.

This reminds me of the story of the California 49er gold miner who was looking for a wife to keep him company in the isolated mining camp. So he writes off to Sears Roebuck in Chicago for a mail-order bride. He notes his requirements for the woman, a lengthy and detailed list of characteristics he wants in a wife. He sends off the order and waits. And he waits, And he waits some more. Finally, frustrated with not having received his bride yet, he writes again to inquire what was taking so long and why they hadn't sent his perfect bride to him yet.

He finally receives a reply and opens it up. The letter stated, "Sorry sir. No such woman exists."

Oh, I don’t really have a checklist. But a man who is able to hunt deer and elk, bring home the occasional salmon from fishing and accompany and help clam digging, and who won’t give too much backtalk when I request him to rototill the garden, that is what I would hope to find.

I do agree with you about responsible, neat and clean, though.

So she wants a man with whom she will not be equal but one who will be completely subservient to whatever she determines is important.

She doesn’t want a boyfriend. She wants a bootlicking sycophant.

So let me summarize her article:

Seeking man I can dominate and then secretly loathe because he's so easy to dominate.

In the words of fictional crime boss Francis Costello, “ I do not need *****, but I like it.”

As for having kids in your fifties, you too can be the out of touch clueless old foggy parent you remember from your youth. I think we all remember the type. It also makes it harder to throw batting practice to your teenage son when you are 68 years old.
