Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) today issued the following statement on the Speaker of the House for the 114th Congress:
I strongly believe that Congress ought to be more aggressive in opposing President Obamas policies than in the past. Time will tell if the new Congress will bring a more aggressive approach in fighting President Obamas failed policies.
That being said, no candidate other than John Boehner stepped forward for the nomination at the Republican Conference meeting of November 13, 2014. Had a viable candidate sought the nomination at that meeting, I would have given serious consideration to supporting them due to my frustrations with the leadership style of John Boehner.

Special kind of stupid, right?
So everyone that votes for Boehner is going to be accused of bribery? That’s very mature.
Griffith is right that the time for this was several weeks ago at the conference meeting when no one stepped forward to run against Boehner.
The Founders did not put in the Constitution that the House leaders should be elected in a Party Conference. They knew politicians well.
Boehner’s omnibus bill took millions of dollars out of the poor district Griffith represents.
That’s a deal breaker.
You do realized that when the first vote happened SEVERAL WEEKS AGO Boehner lied to the voting members? Saying would fight for conservatives causes. Then back-stabbed conservatives by using Obama and Pelosi to get Democrat votes to the worse piece of legislation in history.
So, your logic is that if someone shakes your hand on a deal, then back-stabs you, lies to you, teams up with your enemies, punishes you, and vows to destroy you (if you don’t go along) that you should still support them? O.K. I understand.
Well, he is from VA; what else can you expect? Yes, I know about the exception, Mr. Brat. Scalise has all the LA delegation in line.
There’s some good people in Texas, but then there’s you...
No, my argument is this effort is half-as*ed and last minute and I think it’s likely being done with little expectation of success just to score cheap points with conservatives.
He should have been challenged at the party conference.
” worse piece of legislation in history.”
That was Obamacare.
I “get” your point.
OTOH it was the omnibus bill that precipitated this battle after the conference vote.
It was just too much and Boehner knew it and behaved that way because he’d have this excuse that “it’s too late”, and “you already promised”.
And, of course, since there are politicians involved there is some phony play-acting going on LOL!
Bob Goodlatte, next door in the 6th District has announced he’s supporting Boehner also. (RINO Alert!)
I think we may see a surprise. if Boehnor fails on first ballot, somebody who is a real threat could suddenly declare and then the real defections start. Aint happenin until there is the proof of 29.
THis was a good approach. I recall the rebellion against Gingrich one year .... I got bored with the details, but it was a close call.
I wasn't sure what you were talking about until I saw this post.
If they were the least bit serious they would have stepped up then for the GOP Speaker nomination and would make a case why they themselves should be Speaker. Saying ‘You can vote for me because no one else stepped up’ will have easily predictable results.
Someone serious would be saying specifically what Boehner did wrong and what they would do different in each case(then and now).
Gohnert was on Hannity last week and said that the House can force the Senate to vote on bills, he could be running on that if that's what he believes..
Ditto on the Tenn side of that state line. Roe (TN-1) has not issued a statement, but I bet a dollar he's all in for Boehner. Griffith's reasons are silly and childish.
My problem with Mr. Griffith's statement is this: he expresses frustration with the current speaker, but does not indicate any initiative on his part either before, during, or after the November conference to find a suitable replacement.
He now says that he “hopes” for a more aggressive 114th Congress; however, this entire press release seems to be more indicative of one who is waiting passively for others to show courage and leadership.
"Shall we acquire the means of effectual resistance, by lying supinely on our backs, and hugging the delusive phantom of hope, until our enemies shall have bound us hand and foot?" -- Patrick Henry
” Griffith is right that the time for this was several weeks ago at the conference meeting when no one stepped forward to run against Boehner.”
Exactly.
Boner has had 24 hours to threaten, or promise plum positions. I expect the rat ba$tard to prevail. I DO hope I’m wrong, but doubt it.
Oh......... so they should go along with Boehner because they had their chance weeks ago???
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AFTER that time he LIED and turned out to be an Obama butt-kisser, once again...
“That being said, no candidate other than John Boehner stepped forward for the nomination at the Republican Conference meeting of November 13, 2014”...
so???
“...no candidate other than John Boehner stepped forward for the nomination ...”
Ahem... I believe that I did... and Impy nominated me...
NF Hale for Speaker!
Burnin down the House!
To be clear that was part of a quote of Lou.
