SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) As he was sworn in for a record fourth term, Gov. Jerry Brown charted an ambitious new goal on Monday for California in its fight against climate change, challenging the nation's most populous state to increase renewable energy use to 50 percent in the next 15 years.

During his speech, Brown strengthened his push for a $68 billion high-speed rail project even though it remains controversial. The project faces a blackout from the Republican-dominated House of Representatives, but Brown has secured a source of ongoing state funds from the state's cap-and-trade pollution fees.
California voted for him and they deserve the government they elected.
and where would they build it? on the San Andreas fault line?
One ray of hope for those of us still holding out in Occupied California is that Jerry and his comrades may wreck the state so efficiently that they will inspire the illegals to move to greener pastures.
It’s a hoax, Gov.
Oh, we have plenty of earthquake faults in addition to the San Andreas.
You can find maps of Jerry Brown’s high speed white elephant right here:

Only at the beginning. Then, in a brilliant move to keep the Earthquake Gods guessing, it veers East away from the coast - where San Francisco is - to Fresno...guess he wants the Robinson's to have a stop.
Why anyone would want to go to Fresno to get to San Francisco...no one knows, and the Mad Geezer ain't talkin'.
For 68 billion we could build 20 desalinization plants and end the drought problem forever in California. And still have 48 billion left over to fix the freeways to accommodate the tens of millions who have come here since the last time they were actually upgraded.
But Nope! Our Mad Geezer wants his 100 billion choo choo that will serve oh, you know...bout 10 people a day.
I held out that hope for a long time but I couldn’t afford it anymore.
On the second day, I'll ammend half of them and suspend the rest until further notice
On the third day, I'll cry in front of the camera's, beg forgiveness and return all the ordinances back to where they were in the first place
On the fourth day, I'll add to each ordinance, a rider that ammends the ordinance but does not change it
Then I'll go on vacation
I am a democrat.
Yeah. Just think, at 15 cents a gallon, Jerry will get 3 bucks from us every time we fill up - all for his little ‘ol train.
At my usual rate of consumption that will be about $150 / year, and my kid needs the cash more then this nutcase does.
i thought Callyfornia was broke, how much money does moonbeam have? $1042.78 left in the budget? where was he going to get 68 Billion? print it?
And that’s just a drop in the bucket of what you pay for everything in CA due to regulations and taxes on businesses and citizens.
I just wish California’s economy was still bad. Now some are calling for Jerry to run for President because of his success with California’s economy. Thank God he is so old or Hillary might be in trouble and Republicans too.
CA does well when the stock market does well, as most of their money comes from capital gains from wealthy stockholders. If the stock market crashes, then the public employee unions will be running ads about raising taxes on the “rich” again.
See my post below this one.
That is interesting and lucky for Jerry actually. The stock market does well most of the time.
The worse part about this is that he’s making California regulations so bad that even the Libs will start moving out and poison the surrounding Red States with their liberal voting.
But hey, he’s their Mad Geezer ... fourth term.
Yeah that was one of the ideas of the Founding Fathers.
The people of a state could elect any nutcase they wanted, and he or she would have wide latitude to impose any kind of crazy laws the people of that state would tolerate, as long as those laws didn't infringe on the Constitution, which was to be limited in its scope of interpretation according to the judgment of the Supreme Court.
That way, no state's poor decisions about its government could propagate out and screw up other states. In fact, the idea was that bad ideas implemented in one state would serve as a warning to the other states to "not do that."
Over time, this concept has lost much of its power, as the Federal Government has taken ever more control over decisions that might better have been left to "the several states."
I worked for a PEU in CA (accountant) so I know how it goes. When the market “crashed” in 2008 it not only hurt the State’s budget but also CALPER’s balance sheet.
