Frankfurt (AFP) - Tougher sanctions may destabilise the situation further in Russia and plunge the country into chaos, German deputy chancellor Sigmar Gabriel warned in a newspaper interview on Sunday.
"The goal was never to push Russia politically and economically into chaos," Gabriel told the Bild am Sonntag.
"Whoever wants that will provoke a much more dangerous situation for all of us in Europe," he said, pointing out that Russia was a nuclear power.
The aim of the sanctions imposed against Russia so far was to steer the country back to the negotiating table.
"Those who want to destabilise Russia economically and politically even more are pursuing completely different interests," said Gabriel, who is also Germany's economy minister.
Some in Europe and in the United States want to see the old arch-rival Russia on its knees, but Gabriel said: "That is not Germany's or Europe's interest."

The way out of this mess is easy. Return to the status quo prior to the illegal annexation of Crimea. Indulging Putin's vainglory and his pursuit of revanche policies would be unending in Europe. Putin, president for life, is opening all kinds of borders disputes. For instance, why can't the Germans have Kaliningrad back? Why can't the borders of Poland be moved back to where they were before Stalin pushed them to the Poles and their national boundaries to the west? And that's just the beginning of the havoc Putin's reckless adventurism has caused.
For now, however, do not collapse the economy of Putinstan; the free world should not have to bail them out for their chauvinism. Let's allow Putin the chance to change his mercurial mind and to end his proxy, illegal, and undeclared war against the independent nation of Ukraine. Putin cannot control all the people formerly stuck in the Soviet Union, the communist power he served as a faithfully served for seventeen years as a secret policeman, like his father.

He has to get over that. Putinstan is a super powr in one way only. It has nukes. Beyond that, Russia remains a nation of drunkards proud to be ruled without liberty by a benighted bully.

He’s from the SPD party. The Commies basically. No surprise he would run home to a Kremlin in crisis.

Putin is pretending to invade ukraine and the Euros/Obama are pretending to be preventing the invasion
It is a game for public consumption
Putin gets credit from his people for sabre rattling. The Euros and Obama get credit for stopping him with peaceful sanctions.
In the meantime Crimea is now Russia and there will be no opposition

So in your view the people killed in Eastern Ukraine are probably pretending to be dead, too, right? And the Russian soldiers killed in Ukraine are pretending too.

It’s a lot easier to be blithe about the loss of life when it’s not anyone you know or care about, of course. It’s not a Christian outlook, but it seems to be yours.

A christian outlook might be the problem with your understanding.
It is possible to view events and make a rational observation that has nothing to do whatsoever with being a Christian
