Atheists Demand Apology From University Chancellor For Sharing This Video With Staff and Students

An atheist activist group is demanding an apology from a university chancellor over the contents of a video that he reportedly recently shared with students and staff members.

American Atheists president David Silverman wrote a letter to Dr. Jack Hawkins, chancellor of Troy University in Troy, Alabama, on December 31, on behalf of a concerned student at the school who took issue with the video, which was reportedly included in the chancellor’s end-of-year email to students.

The short clip featured comments from Clay Christensen, a noted professor at Harvard Business School, who discussed his views on religion and morality in American society.

Christensen, a Mormon, said that he had spoken to a Marxist economist from China some time ago who shared with Christensen what he was most surprised to learn about American democracy after spending some time in the United States.

“I asked him if he had learned anything that was surprising or unexpected and without any hesitation he said, ‘Yeah, I had no idea how critical religion is to the functioning of democracy,” Christensen said in the video.

The professor went on to claim that the Marxist economist expressed his view that democracy works due to the fact that most people voluntarily choose to obey the law and that people have traditionally seen themselves as being accountable not only to society, but also to God.

Christensen also said that he personally shares concerns about where America is headed.

“As religion loses its influence over the lives of Americans, what will happen to our democracy?” he said. “Where are the institutions that are going to teach the next generation of Americans that they, too, need to voluntarily choose to obey the laws?”

Hey David, my middle finger is raised loud and proud - that serves as an apology.

I hope no apology is issued. None is deserved. The essence of the video described a Chinese executive who worked for a while in America. He had no idea how influential religion was to out society, as it compels people to obey the law of the land because they are not just accountable to the courts, but to the God they worship. I agree.

These people are not atheists. A true atheist doesn’t really care what other people believe (although there’s always room for hatred of islam, but that’s another subject).

If you profess atheism and then get apoplectic because someone mentions religion... I’m sorry, you aren’t an atheist. I don’t know what you are, but you definitely aren’t an atheist.

Clay Christensen's remarks in the video should in no way have caused a letter from American Atheists president David Silverman to be written in protest to a known Christian/religious attribute.

Mr. Silverman should be ashamed to be pushed into a petty, selfish complaint to start the New Year showing a total lack of tolerance for others.

Actually, my experience has been they are all Christ haters. They only will go after something that could attract someone to Christ. They will NEVER go after Muslims, Buddhist, Hindus, etc. They are monumental hypocrites.

Militant atheists are the stupidest people on the face of the planet. That they even exist is due to the tolerance taught by Christianity. No other religion would put up with them.

If they are successful at purging Christianity from our culture, they will all be facing Mecca while they bow on their prayer mats.

They will not get any other choice.

Exactly. Christ haters are not atheists. Christ haters are... Christ haters. And they hate with a religious zeal that is breathtaking to behold.

Applogy: I/We regret that you were offended. Also regretted is the fact that we did not smoke your goat smelling rear ends the last time you all got together.

I would say "Coward" is probably more accurate than hypocrite. They don't like Islam either, but they don't dare say anything for fear of getting their head sawed off. They aren't afraid of Christians because Christians don't give them any reason to fear.

Awhile back this group of Atheists came up with a comic book which featured a cartoon character bible raping women.

This is happening in Florida (where I do not live) or else I would have done something about it. What I would do is I would copy their entire comic book, change all references to the bible to the Koran, change all references to Jesus or Christianity to the Prophet Mohammad, Leave their name and contact information on it and distribute it in the same area where they distributed the anti-bible literature.

This would put these trouble makers on a collision course with Islam and it would hopefully awaken atheists up to the stupidity of attacking Christianity and likewise wake up the rest of the country to what a threat Muslims present.

I can think of no better outcome than national news stories about the Muslims calling for the blood of the atheists, and the atheists pleading for everybody to understand that they didn't attack the Muslim religion.

I don’t know. I think muslims are the winners of the Perpetually Aggrieved Award... though the self-proclaimed and wrongly self-labeled “atheists” are up near the top, I agree.

“Atheists don’t believe in God. But the Devil does’’.— Bishop Fulton J. Sheen. How do atheists feel about having money that says “In God We Trust’’. Do they have a problem with that?

The most intolerant atheists are sometimes called anti-theists.

How else explain all that apoplectic rage aimed at Someone Whom they maintain doesn’t even exist?

How about it, all you happy well-adjusted walking bags of warm chemicals randomly assembled by inexplicable cosmic accident?

;^)

I agree Lee. That is the thing that makes me reluctant to even read articles like this - way too often people in the right are giving in to the intimidation of agitators like Silverman. A polite “piss off” is the only response I would give.
