The most dramatic shift in opinion took place among black Americans, according to the nonpartisan Pew. In December 2012, only 29 percent of black respondents said owning a gun helps protect people from crime, but this year, 54 percent said so.
Many women also changed their view, Pew says, citing the 51 percent who said owning a gun protects people from becoming victims of crime in 2014, compared with only 40 percent who said so in 2012.

BTW, I think the shift in female and black respondents is particularly important because, as classes, they stand to benefit the most from the personal protection provided by firearms due to physical inequality and/or frequency of targeting by criminals.
“nonpartisan Pew” <— LOL.
The more individuals are motivated to feel personally responsible for either their economic well being, or personal safety, the more intelligent & inspired will be their efforts in a constructive direction--also the better will be the ratio between the fire-power of the law abiding, versus the fire-power of the lawless.

I know what you are saying, but females of their race are actually the people least in need of self defense, especially white females.
If I were female, I would desperately want a gun, and I desperately want the females that I care about to have a gun, but the statistics are that men are the victims of crime.
Clearly true.
Seems strange that the blacks use these weapons for protection instead of for killing each other.
Even in the violent urban centers, the number of violent criminals is a small percentage of the total.
