FBI warns of Islamic State threat to Mississippi River bridge

The FBI has warned local authorities of a threat that Islamic State militants would blow up the Memphis & Arkansas Bridge spanning the Mississippi River, an agency spokesman said on Tuesday.

The bridge is a major route connecting Tennessee and Arkansas. The Federal Bureau of Investigation passed the threat on to local police in a bulletin out of an "abundance of caution," spokesman Chris Allen said.

"This is an unsubstantiated, anonymous threat," he said, adding that there was no useful intelligence arising from it.

The only thing surprising is that they haven’t acted already.

Previous reports indicated here cautioned that “there was no actionable intelligence” associated with the caution. Seems it is a CI type claim. Yet, the “caution” persists.

This bridge had a sign saying, “Welcome to Arkansas, home of President Bill Clinton” in one direction, and, “ . . . Tennessee, home of Vice President Al Gore” in the other direction. I’d be tempted to blow it up, myself.

I believe nothing I hear from the FBI or any of the other federal alphabet agencies.
FBI went from the premier law enforcement agency in the world to a laughing stock to a bureaucratic arm of the left within a generation of the death of J. Edgar Hoover.

I don’t think the terrorists have a chance if they park on the East side of the bridge. The FBI swat team has had their van with all of their equipment hijacked, not once, but twice, in Memphis. A Sheriff’s swat vehicle was jacked there too.

I’m likely to be on that bridge in January so if they are going to blow it up, wish they would do it now and not when “I’m” on the bridge. That is my self serving statement with callous disregard to anyone else. :o)

I suppose I should feel lucky - the bridge I cross on a regular basis - connects Illinois to Missouri. :-)
