“UVA women face a much greater danger walking down Wertland Ave. towards downtown (like Hannah Graham did) than they do walking down Rugby Rd. past the fraternities. But it’s not politically correct to point that out.”
When I attended UVA, in the early 1970’s, rapes in the apartments along Rugby Road (University Circle and Grady Avenue in particular) were too common. All were perpetrated by non student members of the nearby “community”. Many fraternity members served as volunteers for the University escort service walking women from the library on campus to their apartments off campus. As you indicated, some of the harsh truths about the Charlottesville residents in neighborhoods near the University don’t fit the narrative and won’t be published in the Rolling Stone, much less the Washington Post and New York Times.
