By making herself queen of the school lunchroom, Michelle Obama has managed to screw things up almost as badly as Obamacare has screwed up health insurance, albeit on a smaller scale. The Twitter hashtag #thanksmichelleobama accompanying pictures of inedible school cafeteria slop is evidence that a generation of nanny state-hating youngsters will eventually enter the voting booth, just as many of their parents are turning on Democrats over Obamacare. And like Obamacare devastates family finances with high deductibles and cost increases for many, the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act that Mrs. Obama pushed so hard is devastating the finances of school lunch programs.
Paul Bedard reports in the Washington Examiner:
More than half of the nation’s school cafeteria workers expect to lose money selling low-salt, low-fat meals pushed by first lady Michelle Obama, a “serious” problem that threatens the programs, according to a survey of food providers.
The School Nutrition Association, which is planning to demand changes to the meal requirements to make the food more attractive to students, found that 50.35 percent of cafeteria officials surveyed expect that serving the food will “exceed revenue” next year. (snip)
As a result, the group plans to ask the administration to let schools ease up on the low-salt and fruit and vegetable demands. In fact, they plan to seek a recess from being required to put fruit and veggies on meal trays, according to a draft proposal.
Michelle Obama is the very image of an out-of-touch do-gooder, heedlessly creating problems in her efforts to do something “nice.”

This is America for crying out loud. America should act like America, and serve good food. Resist the left!

I'm guessing it has something to do with federal funding of schools (grant programs, etc.).
Step 1: The Federal Government taxes the locals.
Step 2: The Federal Government offers to give some of that tax money back, but only if the locals surrender to the will of the Federal Government.
It's a disgusting display of imperial power.
It has nothing to do with "brightness". It's a governing mentality. They are evil because they believe they have a right to control everything.
The school kids need to sue Michelle Obama for exercising authority over school lunches that is not granted to her in the Constitution.
Well, if her husband signs the recent bill, her “program” will be FUNDED.
More and more families are opting to send their child to school with a lunch from home.

I really don’t even think that Michael Obama cares about the school lunch program. I think she took a look at historically how first ladies have taken up a cause that usually was non partisan and have worked to support it president carters wife was mental illness,, Nancy Reagan was drug use in children and Laura bush it was reading. I think that Michael wanted to make a splash and some political adviser suggested that diet would be a place to make her mark. so with out even understanding food health she decided to make her mark. if you look at her dietary rules for the lunch program the only ones to benefit from it are those that are obsess not healthy kids. The diet that she is forcing on children is that you give to someone that is an over weight adult. not a kid who has a different dietary need.
Not only is it a money loser, the menu is NOT healthy. Fed.gov, Michelle et al are stuck in 70s era food fantasies.
- that fat makes you fat and causes heart disease.
- that salt is bad for you... unless you have certain ailments like high blood pressure.
- that simply counting calories has anything whatsoever to do with healthy eating.
- that "grains" are needed for a healthy diet.
