California Battling Its Worst Whooping Cough Epidemic In 70 Years

A total of 9,935 cases of whooping cough cases were reported to the California Department of Public Health from Jan. 1 to Nov. 26. That’s the highest number in 70 years. The cases include one infant who died.

Last week one of my students missed his Chemistry final exam because he had been exposed to whooping cough and he was quarantined. I couldn’t help to think what an unnecessary aggravation it was! He will have a chance to make up the exam, but I am sure it would have been easier on both of us if he had taken his final with the rest of the class.

Vaccines really aren't the easy call they were when I was a pup. Back then, it was the polio sugar cubes, smallpox, DPT and the basic stuff.

When my kiddies were little, they added a few more.

Now, with all the added crap like Guardisil (which assumes that all kids will be sexually promiscuous), I've gained a little more understanding for the vaccine refusers.

My daughter, who majored in the field of public health, is carefully selective about those which she will give our grandchildren.
