GOP makes one-week funding backup plan

The government funding debate might last until next week.

House Republicans are warning Democrats that if they cannot pass the long-term government funding bill Thursday, they will pass a one-week stopgap bill and come back next week to pass a three-month funding bill. The warning from GOP leadership has been delivered to congressional Democrats.

Republicans still want to pass a deal today. “We expect the bill to pass with bipartisan support today, but if it does not, we will pass a short-term CR to avoid a government shutdown,” said Michael Steel, spokesman for John Boehner. “The length and other details of that bill have not been determined.”

4 weeks would allow the new congress to do it’s will.
1 week just says there’s no reason not to wait 4. Except for corruption.

But maybe the plan is to be ‘forced’ to put things in the new congress’s hands... I doubt it, but it could be.

Won't it be funny if Warren gets praise for stopping this monstrosity from passing by saying it would be better to shut down the gov than pass it?

I don't understand how any HOR rep who campaigned on constitutional conservative issues can vote for Boehner to remain speaker. If they do, they're frauds.

The House should send it to the Senate. Then Adjourn.

If Warren wants a shutdown, we can have a “Warren Shutdown”. The President then can recall the House to reopen the government from the “Warren Shutdown”

Now, I am not a JB fan but maybe this will have the effect of taking the “gov’t shutdown party” label off the GOP back & put it onto the Demo’s back, since they will have to be the ones to reject the budget &, thus, shut down the gov’t. Could this be JB’s goal or is this an unintended consequence?

The entire MSM—minus Fox will blame the Republicans (said Rush this morning)
