Jobless claims tick down to 294,000

First-time claims for unemployment benefits ticked down to 294,000 for the week ending Dec. 6, the Department of Labor reported Thursday, down from 297,000 the week before and right in line with expectations.

The four-week moving average remained just below the 300,000 mark, at 299,250, signaling that layoffs remain low amid an expanding labor market.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday that the economy added a healthy 321,000 jobs in November. At 5.8 percent, the unemployment rate has plummeted by 1.2 percentage points over the past year.

The total number of workers receiving unemployment insurance fell by 95,846 to 2,153,612 through Nov. 22, the Labor Department said Thursday.

That number was down from 3,820,947 the year before. That improvement reflects both the rapid decline in unemployment and the expiration last December of unemployment benefits for workers out of a job for longer than 26 weeks.

Yet, even with 250,000 new jobless claims each WEEK, no one seems to connect that with the much trumpeted new JOBS created each MONTH (from 50,000 to 250,000)....

No one EVER stops to say “WTF?” “What’s so good about this?”

Sounds to me like we’re running out of people who can lose a job.(As in private sector workers.)

I didn’t click on the link. Did the Labor Department update the labor participation rate? No? Hm. An oversight, I’m sure.

Casual data (like help wanted signs around town) tell me that things have picked up over the last couple years. But these are all low end “29er” type jobs. The kind Pelosi used to mock Bush for creating. Now considered by the MSM to be the middle class gold standard.

I put all this BLS nonsense in the same category as the CDC’s initial “Wash your hands” protocol for Ebola.

I won’t disagree about that. Things seem to be different anyway. Maybe it’s because more people are satisfied that Obamacare will subsidize away their HC problems if they have part time jobs. What do they care? They’re not going to pay for it. The rest of us are. One only need look at the new IRS tax collection numbers the Admin is touting to see that somebody is paying more than their fair share than the leeches.

I don’t see SNAP or EITC or Section 8 or TANF or WICS or any of that going down in proportion to these great BLS numbers. And, any connection of economic health with respect to looking at stock market performance is just plain bastardized because it is reveling in $1 Trillion per year in quantitative easing and could give a crap about the working/net-tax paying American, frankly.

I’m tired of arguing statistics and the idiocy of their measures of performance. They are patent bullsh!t IMO.

The media mothballed the term “McJobs” in 2009.

It could come back in 2017.

bingo

5 Million Jobs Destroyed Under Obama

The unemployment rate is a lie, actually, six of them.
A question: Why do we need 6 unemployment rates? (U1, U2, U3, U4, U5, U6 unemployment).
Like when you ask a child who is lying a question and they come up with six different answers, they are hiding something.

The unemployment rate automatically and magically counts a person as employed after six months whether or not they found a job. Since unemployment is a two condition state, if you are not one; by default you are the other. So by not counting someone as unemployed anymore once their benefits run out, that means that they are automatically now counted as employed - a bald-faced lie.

So for the truth, we must look at the "Labor Force Participation Rate" and the size of the labor force - both statistics put out by the "Bureau of Labor Statistics".

Once you do that you will see that there are still over 4 million fewer jobs in America thanks to Obama, and just over 5 million fewer than we would have had he held the LFPR at the levels Bush did.

My calculation counts the number of jobs in America the day Obama won in 2008, and the same day in 2014. Simple.
Labor Force Size

My Calculations add up the size of the labor force, then simply multiply it by the percentage of those people who have jobs. Simple.

Millions of Jobs Destroyed By Obama

October 2008 Statistics (Obama Wins)

Total Labor Force Size: 154,876,000
Labor Force Participation Rate: 66%
Total Number of Jobs: 102,218,160
(Labor Force size multiplied by rate)

October 2014 Statistics

Total Labor Force: 156,278,000
Labor Force Participation Rate: 62.8%
Total Number of Jobs: 98,142,584

Summary

American Jobs in 2008: 102,218,000
American Jobs in 2014:   98,142,584
Number of jobs lost since 2008: 4,075,416

This calculation ignores the fact that the labor force actually increased in size over that time by some 1,400,000 people. If the Labor Force Participation Rate held the same as when Bush was President, 66% of them, or 925,320 of them would be working.
So in total, we are down just over 5 million jobs from where we would or should be.
Total Jobs Lost: 5,000,736 - according to data from the BLS (Bureau of Labor Statistics).

SOURCE:

These statistics are both available online from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, not some partisan propaganda site. They require simple arithmetic, not something most lefties are capable of.

Civilian Labor Force (Size)
Labor Force Participation Rate
Simply multiply one by the other to see how many jobs there actually are.

Do the math (arithmetic) yourself and see. Post it on your blogs and wherever you can to get the truth out there. I'm sick of the lies being promulgated by the MSM and this lying administration.

I will post this until my fingers turn blue. Too bad the MSM won't report the truth. Don't just take my word for it, follow my links to the government's own pages (links above) and do the arithmetic yourself.

I just did that calculation

156397 (in thousands) for labor force population
62.8% Labor force participation. (Also can be read as 37.2% are not participating but are considered participators.....37.2% unemployment)

Comes out to 98.2 Million people currently working in the labor force. or 58.1 Million out of work.

Also means that if the total population is 320 Million, than 30.69% of the population (yes it includes kids and infirm and such) is working. So less than 1 in 3 of our population is carrying the load.

Fun with numbers indeed...

Fun with numbers indeed...

Yet, they get away with it.
There is a similar way to cut through the next big lie, the inflation rate.
