Late in the day on Monday, it became evident that the Cromnibus amnesty bill had hit a snag in negotiations, which prevented the bill from being finalized by the end of the day. So what happened? Did Republicans suddenly decide to defund amnesty? Did they discover a newfound sense of disquiet over Obamas imperialism as president? Did they develop an affinity for using the purse to fulfill their mandate and prioritize the needs of Americans over special interests?
Nope not a chance. Mitch McConnell was bothered by an extraneous provision related to campaign finance laws that, unlike Obamas illegal amnesty, actually threatens his power. As CQ reports, McConnell is trying to attach a provision to the omnibus loosening restrictions on the way party committees spend money on behalf of their endorsed candidates:
An effort to ease limits on spending by party committees was among the late lingering issues as negotiations continued on legislation to keep the government funded past Thursday. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has championed the change, telling CQ Roll Call on Friday that eliminating the spending restrictions would vest more power with the party national committees, as well as the congressional campaign committees, calling the current practice an absurdity in the current law.
This is unreal. The Republican leader has no interest in fighting Obamas illegal amnesty and is vehemently opposed to attaching a defund rider to the budget bill, yet he is willing to stand up and delay the sacrosanct budget bill in order to grow the power of the political parties. It appears that policy riders on budget bills are all in the eyes of the beholder. Presumably, this is McConnells definition of governing.

Roses are red, violets are blue;

Yeah, can’t say we didn’t warn them. I got into numerous arguments last year!
Americans are such suckers.
