Advocates fear impact of Rolling Stone apology

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — Advocates for sexual-assault victims say Rolling Stone's backpedaling from an explosive account of a gang rape at the University of Virginia doesn't change the fact that rape is a problem on college campuses and must be confronted — even as some expressed concern that the magazine's apology could discourage victims from coming forward.

Students, state government and education leaders, meanwhile, pledged to continue ongoing efforts to adequately respond to — and prevent — sexual assaults on campus.

Rolling Stone cast doubt on its story Friday of a gang rape by a woman it identified only as "Jackie," saying it has since learned of "discrepancies" in her account.

"Our trust in her was misplaced," the magazine's editor, Will Dana, wrote in a signed apology.

The ever growing media drumbeat about racist cops, evil predator men, that the American military is bad --- hmmmmmmmmmmm... strikes me as massaging the national mood -- teeing it up for "Hillary" and her merry band of feminists and purse holders to fix the world.

..”Jackie is a lovely person who never sought and who thoroughly disdains publicity or sensation,” Chase said. “She spoke in good faith, and she deserves respect.”

She added that regardless of whether there were incorrect details in the student’s account, “We don’t need Jackie’s story to substantiate the problem of rape on this, or any other campus.”..

“WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE?!!”

If she lied, she can’t be trusted and therefore will cause questions to be raised the next time a woman brings forth such charges.

It is a crying shame too, this is one of those crimes that just totally p-— me off.

The advocates, however, do not have any fears about destroying the reputations of an entire fraternity and defaming the university.

This year there were over 3000 rapes reported in the military this year . . . . by men.

I can’t wait to read about that in Rolling Stone.

In bizzaro-world, I’d be the judge presiding over the BMF of a libel case the Phi Psi’s will no-doubt bring on RS.

As part of the settlement, I’d order them to write a story, no shorter than 10 full pages, upon which pages no advertising or pictures numbering more than 1 per page of no more than 3 inches square, about male on male rape in the US military.

For not fact checking before going to print, I would hand the keys to the office to Phi Psi, and let them dedicate the entire rag to Jefferson.

This is becoming a pattern: Deception to advance an agenda. The Left knows that it is impossible to unring a bell. See the facts don’t matter. We can see how graduates coming out of universities are already believing this country and the men in it are bad. The media runs where they’re told to go by the Left.

We must push back.

Oct 10, 2013: “........Take the present debate about a government shutdown. A statement from Boehner’s office explains, “The entire government is shut down right now because Washington Democrats refuse to even talk about fairness for all Americans under ObamaCare.” This is a proposal for compromise and is designed to portray Republicans as reasonable. We’re all part of the same social contract, and we need to give on both sides to resolve the impasse. We’re all interested in fairness, when all is said and done. If individuals were to be given a year’s extension under Obamacare, as corporations already have been, that would be fair. But since when is Obamacare about fairness? That’s a Democratic façade and talking point, courtesy of the Republican Speaker. By way of contrast, this is how the Democrats make their argument: “Republicans are trying to shut down the government so they can prevent us from providing all Americans with affordable healthcare.” In other words, Democrats are standing up for fairness and ordinary Americans, against the selfish Republicans who want deny them affordable care and shut down their government. This is three lies in one sentence. But who do you think wins that vote?

If you want to fight the left you have to fight fire with fire. That means first and foremost you have to hold them to account for hurting the people they are pretending to help. Whose opportunities are going to be wrecked by Obamacare? Health care taxes will go up for those who pay taxes – the middle class — while their incomes will go down. Already Obamacare is cutting the workweek to 30 hours. Whose pocket books do you think that is hitting?

They claim conservatives are conducting a war against minorities; we need to throw the truth back in their faces. We need to tell the people that progressives are the principal oppressors and exploiters of minorities and the poor in this country. Progressives control the inner cities, which are teeming with the nation’s minorities and poor; and they run the broken public school systems that have become dumping grounds for those who cannot afford a private education.

The city of Milwaukee has been run by liberals and progressives without interruption for more than 100 years. What is the consequence of this progressive rule? Milwaukee’s median household income is forty percent below the rest of the country. The black unemployment rate is 27%, three times the national average for everyone. Milwaukee’s population is majority black and Hispanic, and 30% of it lives below the poverty line. A third of Milwaukee’s public school children drop out before they graduate; those who do are barely literate. That’s what progressive policies achieve. Don’t let them forget it.

Conservatives need to put the human disasters of progressive policies in front of people every chance they get. We need to confront progressives with the misery they have created in America’s bankrupt cities, Detroit and Chicago, Philadelphia and Cincinnati, St. Louis, and the nation’s capital, and every city they have controlled for 25, 50 and 100 years, without interruption.

Conservatives need to talk less to the voters’ heads and more to their hearts. Government debt is not just an accountant’s nightmare. Debt is a form of economic slavery. If you add up all the taxes Americans pay — federal, state, local, income, sales — Americans already work half the year for government rather than for themselves. Like Obamacare and the political use of the I.R.S., debt is a threat to individual freedom.

Freedom is what our cause is about not just fiscal responsibility. Fiscal responsibility has no emotional appeal except to people who already understand what it means. Fiscal responsibility is a means to an end. The end is freedom, and that is what inspires commitment and sacrifice and the passion necessary to win. Because it speaks to the heart.

Conservatives need to speak up as champions of the little guys, the underdogs, whose lives are being steadily constricted – made less free — by the ongoing destruction of a system that once afforded more opportunity for more people than any other in the history of the world. Conservatives need to speak up for the young whose future horizons are being rapidly diminished as the trillion dollar Obama deficits pile higher and higher. Conservatives need to speak for all Americans whose security under Obama has been degraded to the most dangerous levels since the end of the Cold War.

This is the threat we face, and the sooner we grapple with it the greater our chances to survive it. The most important battle in the world today is not being waged in the Middle East but here at home in the United States. If we lose this battle, everything is lost. But if we will take the measure of the enemies of freedom and prepare ourselves to fight them, we have a better than even chance to win.”

Shades of the accusations thrown at the Duke Lacrosse players...

There must be another victim campaign in the works, maybe to link up with the Fergusson bunch ( and the commies, rats, racists, and jihadi recruiters tied in with that).

I expect that soon fraternities will no longer be exclusively male.

Hell, football is on the way out, since women can’t play - destroy it.

We can’t have males only in combat, or allow any club or organization to themselves — a place away from the dictates of women.

Hello HILLARY!

This is becoming a pattern: Deception to advance an agenda. The Left knows that it is impossible to unring a bell. See the facts don’t matter.

Case in point: Ferguson, Missouri.

Even some supposed conservatives are conciliating with nonsense about "conflicting testimony." Let us observe that the original narrative to which the Leftists adhere still was advanced by three "witnesses." One of them was Michael Brown's criminal accomplice. One of the other two has admitted that she never actually saw anything until Brown was in the street, dead.

This is weighed against genuinely courageous eye-witnesses who came forward at great personal danger to tell the truth and a mountain of forensic evidence. At worst, the real witnesses and evidence are ignored while borderline dull/imbeciles run onto football fields mouthing slogans and guilty white liberals march with the pre-printed signs of the Socialist Workers Party.

At "best" we are exhorted by our own side to weigh evidence equally against lies, and accept that, at the very least, both men could have "been right" from their own point of view. This is craven nonsense masquerading as peacemaking, and it is time to stop it.

So in the instant case, we are getting the "there is still a rape culture on college campsues." NO! Rolling Stone has committed defamation per se, and needs to pay dearly, and the UVA President needs to be told to stop kowtowing to these despicable liars, and made to apologize to all the members of the UVA fraternity system for acting on a story that she had no evidence whatsoever was true.

Leftist organizers are using Ferguson to rehearse the Big Ugly Leftist organizers are using Ferguson to rehearse the Big Ugly "Multiple far-left groups are using Ferguson as a pretext to rehearse widespread civil disobedience when the Welfare State taps the brakes.

The scaling down of the Welfare State in America is not a question of “if,” but “when.” The status quo is unsustainable.

“Unsustainable” is one of those Washington D.C. words with a history of meaning little -- like Foggy Bottom’s use of “unacceptable.” But unlike unacceptable, unsustainable, when applied to the Welfare State, is a derivative of mathematics -- a major determinant of the wealth of nations.

The American Welfare State is unsustainable -- destined for significant downsizing by cold, impassionate, apolitical Arithmetic.

All except the most hardcore leftist pols inside the Beltway know this to be true, but it remains mostly unspoken."....................

___________

Remember the 5 month-long siege on Wisconsin's state capital early in 2011?

_____________

Democrats Unveil the Weapon of the Future "..........At the same time a campaign to recall Republicans who had voted for [Gov. Scott] Walker's budget was put into motion. (A smaller number of the Democrats who fled were also targeted.) These recall elections are still overhanging the senators.

With the bill headed for the Wisconsin Supreme Court, the left next targeted an ordinary state Supreme Court election, importing hundreds of thousands of dollars in an effort to defeat incumbent David Prosser, a centrist conservative, in favor of Joanne Kloppenberg. Thanks to a comically inept local election official, it seemed at first that they had succeeded, but when the smoke cleared, Prosser had won by a healthy 7,000 votes.

And finally, we have the latest purported incident, in which we are asked to believe that Justice Prosser, in the midst of a discussion in the chambers of his liberal opposite number Ann Walsh Bradley, suddenly and apropos of nothing bounded across the room and attempted to strangle her in front of most of the other justices. The man is even worse than Clarence Thomas.

This is an extraordinary series of events, of a type that we haven't witnessed before. Even more singular is the legacy media's insistence on covering the story (with the exception of the siege of Madison, which got the standard "unions unbound" treatment) as if it were commonplace to the point of boredom. It is no such thing; it is an ideological campaign of a magnitude and breadth that we have not seen in quite some time, if ever.

What all this amounts to is the baptism of fire of what I have taken to calling the "liberal superstructure." This superstructure is the vast constellation of advocacy groups, think tanks, single-issue outfits, unions, and various other flotsam constructed by the left over the past half-century or so. There are literally thousands of these groups, ranging from the ACLU and the Sierra Club with their hundreds of thousands of members to the local "Friends of the People's Venezuela" outfit which amounts to a retired feminism professor and her six cats. These organizations are ubiquitous, universal, and networked to a fare-thee- well. They are also liberalism's last great hope of controlling politics in the United States."....

If my 24 year old daughter and her friends are any indication, young people see Rolling Stone like Levi jeans, hippies and Hillary Clinton: too 20th century.
RS keeps sending her free copies, hoping she’ll subscribe but they go unread into the recycling tub. It should join Look, Time, Dan Rather and Newsweak before too very long.

“We don’t need Jackie’s story to substantiate the problem of rape on this, or any other campus.”

If that were true, then they would save the big Rolling Stone articles for real stories that were verifiable, instead of spotlighting tales like this.

I suspect they don’t want to highlight real stories of rape, because the narratives tend to demonize the wrong demographic.

June 2000, David Horowitz: Hillary Clinton and "The Third Way" How America's First Lady of the Left Has Bamboozled Liberals and Conservatives Alike

"......There is a superficial sense, of course, in which we were civil rights and peace activists—and that is certainly the way I would have described myself at the time, particularly if I were speaking to a non-left audience. It is certainly the way Mrs. Clinton and my former comrades in the left refer to themselves and their pasts in similar contexts today.

But they are lying. (And when they defend racial preferences now—a principle they denounced as "racist" then—even they must know it).

The first truth about leftist missionaries, about believing progressives, is that they are liars. But they are not liars in the ordinary way, which is to say by choice. They are liars by necessity—often without even realizing that they are. Because they also lie to themselves. It is the political lie that gives their cause its life.

Why, for example, if you were one of them, would you tell the truth? If you were serious about your role in humanity's vanguard, if you had the knowledge (which others did not), that you were certain would lead them to a better world, why would you tell them a truth that they could not "understand" and that would hold them back?

If others could understand your truth, you would not think of yourself as a "vanguard." You would no longer inhabit the morally charmed world of an elite, whose members alone can see the light and whose mission is to lead the unenlightened towards it. If everybody could see the promised horizon and knew the path to reach it, the future would already have happened and there would be no need for the vanguard of the saints.

That is both the ethical core and psychological heart of what it means to be a part of the left. That is where the gratification comes from. To see yourself as a social redeemer. To feel anointed. In other words: To be progressive is itself the most satisfying narcissism.

That is why it is of little concern to them that their socialist schemes have run aground, burying millions of human beings in their wake. That is why they don't care that their panaceas have caused more human suffering than all the injustices they have ever challenged. That is why they never learn from their "mistakes." That is why the continuance of Them is more important than any truth.

If you were active in the so-called "peace" movement or in the radical wing of the civil rights causes, why would you tell the truth? Why would you tell people that no, you weren't really a "peace activist," except in the sense that you were against America's war. Why would you draw attention to the fact that while you called yourselves "peace activists," you didn't oppose the Communists' war, and were gratified when America's enemies won?.....

.....Indeed, the Clinton-Lewinsky defense—accord which the feminists signed onto, can be regarded as feminism's Nazi-Soviet Pact. Their calculation was both simple and crude: If Clinton was removed, Hillary would go too. But she was their link to patronage and power, and they couldn't imagine losing that. Their kind was finally in control of the White House, and the conservative enemies of their beautiful future were not.

Almost a decade earlier—in the name of the very principles they so casually betrayed for Clinton—the same feminists had organized the most disgraceful lynching of a public figure in America's history. Despite fiercely proclaimed commitments to the racial victims of American persecution, they launched a vicious campaign to destroy the reputation of an African American jurist who had risen, unblemished, from dirt-shack poverty in the segregated south to the nation's highest courts. They did it knowingly, cynically, with the intent to destroy him in his person, and to ruin his public career.

Has there ever been a more reprehensible witch-hunt in American public life than the one organized by feminist leaders who then emerged as vocal defenders of the White House lecher? Was there ever a more sordid betrayal of common decency than this collective defamation—for which no apology has or ever will be given?"......
