A protest over a grand jury's decision to not indict a New York police officer in the death of Eric Garner briefly shut down Highway 101 in Palo Alto on Wednesday.

The protest, which appeared to involve students from Stanford University, started about 7:30 p.m. and lasted two hours, said police Agent Marianna Villaescusa. No arrests were made.

"It was very peaceful," she said. "We tried to work with the group as much as we could and keep everyone safe."

Oh, so can I block the highway to protest Obama, or is that when the dog and taser party starts?

“We tried to work with the group as much as we could and keep everyone safe.”
Translation: our bosses told us to go easy on the lawbreakers, so we couldn’t arrest them.

It is a crime to block a public road. And for a reason. Suppose it’s YOU trying to get to the hospital !? There are plenty of other places for people to exercise their lungs. A police chief has a sworn duty to enforce the law. Any coo who stands around and just watches crimes in process should be fired and prosecuted. (Ps: the published pay for this Chiefs job was $223,000+ in 2013).

They should have been order off the freeway. If they did not respond they should have been arrested and booked. This easy handling will only result in more damaging riots. They have no right obstructing traffic.

None of these demonstrations is “peaceful” if they block roads. Arrest these bums.

Totally agree, blocking roads puts others lives at risk. It should NOT be allowed at all.
