A volunteer group of security guards associated with the national constitutional rights organization Oath Keepers says it never abandoned its post in Ferguson after being targeted by police for operating without a license.
St. Louis County police confronted the well-armed volunteers early Wednesday as they guarded the rooftops of buildings previously vandalized during unrest in Ferguson.
The reason the Oath Keepers were not allowed to remain on the rooftops is that the individuals from the group did not adhere to St. Louis County ordinance regulating security officers, couriers, and guards, St. Louis County police spokesman Shawn McGuire said Tuesday in a prepared statement.
He said ordinance 701.115 lays out the requirements.
As a matter of public safety, the St. Louis County Police Department must adhere to our policies that ensure security personnel have the required background and qualifications to perform such a role, he added.
Sam Andrews, a local leader of Oath Keepers who in the original Post-Dispatch story on this topic wouldnt provide his last name, said Tuesday that the guards returned to their posts after being told of the countys regulation.
Once we read the statute, we laughed at it, he said. Then, the next night, we were there.
He pointed out part of the ordinance that describes a security guard as a person who is employed. He said the Oath Keepers active in Ferguson include former or off-duty police officers, as well as people with extensive military experience. He said all are unpaid for the work they are doing above a strip of stores and apartments two blocks from the Ferguson police and fire departments.
This is not America, he said. We dont tax volunteers.
Since theyve been back on the rooftops, Andrews said police havent tried to enforce the ordinance.

the Oath Keepers are going to “Stay The Course”....
Dear colleagues,
I think Oath Keepers, or something like it, is the key to our survival. We need to work in structured teams to protect our families and property in chaotic and lawless conditions.
What? The Nation Media isn’t all over this feel-good story of bravery and self-sacrifice? A white man PROTECTING a black woman from other blacks determined to destroy her business and livelihood?
*Crickets Chirping*
Of course St. Louis County attempted to stop the Oath Keepers. Hell, one of them might possibly have hurt one of the sainted looters.
Besides, I suspect orders came down from ‘on high’ to not only go easy on the “Peaceful Protesters” but to take away the threat to them from evil white militia(s).
So they went for the low hanging fruit, the people that would obey lawful orders. Turns out the orders were not lawful, but that got them off the roofs before they possibly hurt one of the rioters er “Peaceful Protesters”.
They need to be there; the police under liberal supervision have to just stand there and watch as they “Burn The Bitch Down”.
From the placement of her left hand, the lady must not be afraid of those evil, high-powered, mega-capacity, bullet spraying, machine gun assault weapon magazine clip thingies...
Good for her.
Did the rioters in St. Louis Co. have valid permits to protest? Or are they exempt from the law?
Duhhh...1st and 2nd Amendment rights will prevail.
Apparently, defending yourself is an act of civil disobedience.
She should sell stock in her company to the OK’s. Then they would be guarding it as an owner.
The National Media is just waiting until one of these Oath Keepers shoots an "unarmed black teen" looter, and then you'll hear from them.
St. Michael and All Looters
LOL - Good one refugee...
