City officials say power has been fully restored to government buildings, schools and other facilities after a major cable failure caused parts of the city to go dark.
The city announced at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday that all customers affected by the outage had their power back.

Government buildings without power.... people should celebrate
Bankrupt community couldn’t pay the bill
Sounds like the wind has picked up again.
my main concern are the squirrels and rats crossing the streets safely. I heard many street lights were out.
Why do government buildings need power?
Don’t their occupants rather work in the dark?
I knew it would be because I understand the screwy situation the city is in with the PLD (Public Lighting Department). The PLD only provides power to about 150 total buildings with the rest of the city getting power from the private DTE.
The PLD is being shut down and the services will be provided by DTE in the future.
I am so glad I don’t have to deal with a municipal utility.
Last year people in Lansing lost power right at Christmas during some serious cold and the administrator of the Board of Water and Light went on vacation.
First no water, then the flooding.
Next no power. See a pattern here? Perhaps He has something more to bestow.
Some info on the transition from the PLD to DTE.

“... caused parts of the city to go dark.”
Parts of the city went dark at 2:00 pm? Sounds racist to me!
you left out, “Next, no rats to eat the scraps”. maybe the rats will migrate to Ferguson.
bump
“Burn this bitch Down!”
so what is obama phone girl gona do now being she has no electricity?
So they got the power back on before the looting started?
The City of Detroits Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr announced today that his office has sent a notice to DTE Energy Company (NYSE: DTE) indicating that Detroits Public Lighting Department (PLD) intends to wind down its electricity distribution and transmission services.
I've never heard of a power company "intending to wind down it's electricity distribution services."
Unless one doesn't pay one's bill. They the will "wind you down" after a few months.
PLD isn’t a company. Its a city government entity that is being replaced by DTE which is a company.
Its a good move.
Its a good move.
Was this one of those deals from twenty or thirty years ago where the city announced - to great MSM fanfare - that it was "taking over the job of distributing electricity to its citizens" from the greedy people who make electricity and that this would save everyone lots of money because now the people who make electricity wouldn't be able to push around the little guy because they'd have to deal with the big bad politicians in City Hall?
Beyond the issue of who supplies the power, how can they have a high rise building without an emergency generator?
