From your posts here, you are virtually indistinguishable from a Leftist, and while you claim not to be one, how are we to tell?

Go over to the religion forum and read my posts there, I defend life and marriage and am not a leftist. It’s not about left/right to me, it’s about right/wrong.

Conservatives used to want to expand the middle class, they wanted workers to make more. And if they didn’t always defend unions, at least they weren’t filled with so much hostility towards them. Now, as our good jobs are allowed to go to Mexico and elsewhere, as downward pressure is continually put on wages and Americans struggle to tread water, we are told that one is a leftist/Communist/Socialist if one says this economic theory defended by conservatives isn’t working.

Every once in a while a presidential candidate like a Pat Buchanan, a Ross Perot, a Donald Trump, or a Rick Santorum will say that the worker, that the middle class is not being defended in this country. Of course they get shot down by the Republican establishment and the corporations and we get a loser like Bob Dole, or John McCain or Mitt Romney for President. I say “Enough!”

Many conservatives are actually defending classical liberal economic theory and don’t even know it.

Classical conservative economic theory puts country before globalization. It seeks to protect good jobs in its country, not sacrifice them to the free market in the name of the globaloney. It defends the dignity of the worker, the human being, before it defends the corporation.

Doesn’t matter what you say there, here, you talk like a Leftist.

Yes, don’t deal with the legitimate points I make, just put me into an ideological box. It’s sad that so many conservatives think the concerns of workers and the struggling middle class is “Leftism”. And so during the next presidential election, the real leftists will say conservatives are for the rich and dismissive of the middle class and poor, and we’ll get President Hillary. Reagan reached out to the workers and the middle class, he didn’t dismiss them with, “Oh you’re leftists.”

As I pointed out earlier, in a sarcastic manner, you somehow think that attacking Wal-Mart is ' standing up for the poor'. It isn't, it's a tactic of the Left to tear down others to make everyone equally poor. Certainly not a tactic Reagan would ever use.

Making everyone equally miserable is a legitimate arguing point it you are a Leftist, and that's what you have been doing on this thread.

Speaking of sad, it's also something you are trying to avoid talking about.

You've built your own ideological box, don't be surprised when you find yourself in it.

Balding_Eagle: “You’ve built your own ideological box”

Oh, come on. In how many posts have you used the word “Leftist”? You obviously have a difficult time breaking out of the Left/Right think. I said I’m Pro-Life, defend traditional marriage, and vote Republican. You don’t address this because you have pigeonholed me in an ideological box to avoid having to take my arguments on and won’t consider any information that proves your preconceived notions false.

Every four years, I have a family member who votes Democrat at the presidential level and basically says: “The Republicans are for the rich and don’t care about the middle class or the working man.” I try to dissuade him from voting Democrat by countering his arguments and getting him to consider many issues. I don’t call him a “Leftist” and walk out of the room. If you really want the Republicans to win, you’re gonna have to do more than preach to the choir and refuse to counter arguments by dismissing people into an ideological box. Good grief, I’ve worked union jobs in which 40-50% of the workers vote Republican. When they say something about better pay, better benefits, or better treatment, are they just supposed to be called “Leftist”? You’re thinking is too Left/Right rigid.

I’ve put you in the same box as all the other Leftists, and quite frankly, you’re indistinguishable from them.

If you don’t want to be called a Leftist, don’t talk like one.

For starters, don’t attack employers who employ marginal people, giving the poor a paycheck that many others won’t.

And learn to make divisive statements.

I worked at Wal- Mart. Let’s not go overboard on how many “marginal” people work there. You have to pass a drug test to work there.

A 2005 class action suit filed in Missouri accused Wal-Mart of forcing between 160,000 and 200,000 employees to work off the clock. The suit also said the employees were were denied overtime pay, and were not allowed to take rest and lunch breaks.

In 2000, Wal-Mart paid $50 billion to settle a suit of 69,000 current and former employees in Colorado who had been forced to work off-the-clock. Similar suits were filed in Pennsylvania, Oregon, and Minnesota.

When I worked at Wal-Mart, they were constantly on us about not getting even one minute of overtime. A friend of mine who had several years at the store gave blood regularly for the extra $30 and constantly talked about how he “needed more money” and “couldn’t make ends meet”. I just don’t think it’s a good place to work.

I’m Catholic and so faith, not ideology, informs my opinions. And so I’m conservative on social issues and liberal on economic issues, thought I believe I’m consistent in believing the child in the womb, the poor, and the worker need to be defended. Conservative ideology asks too much if it demands that one not call Wal-Mart to task for exploiting near slave labor overseas and at times underpaid, mistreated U. S. labor.

I get the idea that you can’t criticize anything Wal-Mart does because it’s a sin against conservative ideology. That’s the way I used to be but I got tired of it and abandoned ideology for the faith perspective. If you said to so many people who know me and know my take on the issues that I’m a “Leftist” they would laugh at you because they think I’m “far right.”

I don’t understand your last statement about “divisive” statements unless you mean “decisive”.

You have a lot of misguided ideas.

Lets take another one:

When I worked at Wal-Mart, they were constantly on us about not getting even one minute of overtime.

You appear to be blaming Wal-Mart for that. They aren't at fault here. You know that, yet you try to convince others to believe your lie.

As an aside, that effort seems to be in conflict with your spoken word about your religion. OR, perhaps your efforts aren't in conflict, are they?

That's why I constantly refer to you as someone immersed in Leftist thinking.

And that gets us to the divisive bit.

The Bible is divisive, as it was meant to be, helping readers to learn how to divide truth from lies.

Based on your posts here, I think you need a lot of practice in that.

You have no idea what conservative ideology is, apparently.

It’s not a lie that Wal-Mart is intensely anti-overtime. I worked there, they are. I worked at UPS and they didn’t get exercised over overtime. I did some seasonal work at Amazon and they WANT you to work overtime. I think in these posts I’ve given a lot of specifics while you respond with generalities about my character.

I notice you didn’t respond to my posting of the lawsuits filed against Wal-Mart by current and former employees?

Are they all liars?

It’s not a lie that Wal-Mart is intensely anti-overtime.

But it is a lie to tell people it's Wal-Mart who is responsible.

That's the lie I accused you of, and the accusation you should be responding to.

Instead you made something up, something at which you seem skilled.

Once again, judging from the words of your posts, you are indistinguishable from a Leftist.

Once we get this overtime lie squared away, let’s get back to the marginal workers.

But first I have to get you on the truth path about the overtime.
