No one disputes that Scott Panettiheavily armed, head shaved and wearing camouflageshot and killed his in-laws at their Texas Hill Country home, showering his estranged wife and 3-year-old daughter in blood.
Panetti himself acknowledged during his 1995 capital murder trial that he had killed Joe and Amanda Alvarado. Dressed as a cowboy, he acted as his own attorney, believing only an insane person could prove an insanity defense.
Jurors convicted him and sentenced him to death, and he is scheduled to die on Wednesday.
Panettis attorneys are seeking to get him off death row or, in the very least, to get his execution date postponed so that he can undergo further psychological testing to determine if hes competent to be put to death. They believe his case raises questions about the legality of executing the mentally illan issue the U.S. Supreme Court has previously considered.

Panettis attorneys are seeking to get him off death row or, in the very least, to get his execution date postponed so that he can undergo further psychological testing to determine if hes competent to be put to death. Soon to be twenty years later, and now they need a stay to run a competency test, to be executed.
Hmmm, did he run a competency test to see if his in-laws were fit to be executed?
I'm thinking this guy could have the IQ of toast right now, and still be competent to be executed. Get 'er done.

This creep murdered his in-laws with a 30-06 - if that isn't crazy I don't now what is. He still needs to be executed, like 15 years ago.

...so that he can undergo further psychological testing to determine if hes competent to be put to death If his heart is still beating then I would say he's "competent" enough to be put to death. His part in the execution process isn't all that complicated and I think he can manage.

I agree with your sentiments.
The guy was given a fair trial. He had 20 years worth of appeals and efforts on his behalf to keep him from having to pay for what he did.
Now that still isn’t enough.
Who speaks on behalf of the dead people? Who marches for them? Who champions them on television with sob stories about how they didn’t deserve what happened to them?
This angers me.
Every person that goes out and defends this guy at this point, deserves to have his crime perpetrated on their inner family circle. Then folks can protest the penalty of the perp that done them wrong. We’ll see how they like it.
The family members of the slain people, have been waiting a long time for justice. It’s time for them to have closure.

There are no “tests” for insanity. It’s just a clever, legal word game.
No physiological, biological evidence exists for “insanity,” only conduct and acting out, which anyone can do.

Isn’t it a requirement that someone be deemed to be competent when they choose to represent themselves - especially in a murder trial? If he was deemed sane enough then, what has changed except to delay the inevitable?

Who speaks on behalf of the dead people? Who marches for them? Who champions them on television with sob stories about how they didnt deserve what happened to them? Well judging from current and past events, the obvious answer is only race baiters who can score their seven pieces of silver.
