The Obama administration says people in the United States whose home countries are ravaged by Ebola can stay in America.
The decision by the Department of Homeland Security will grant temporary status to about 8,000 people currently living in the U.S. The move, first reported by Reuters, was designed to protect people from Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone from being deported back to areas experiencing disaster conditions.
The temporary stay currently has an 18-month ceiling on it. However, after that time, DHS will assess whether the protection should be extended.
In order to receive protected status, residents from the three West African countries must undergo a background check. Those who are found to have a criminal history will not be approved.
This isnt the first time the United States has offered protection to people whose homelands have been hit by either natural disasters or diseases deeming the area too dangerous to return....

Impeach. Remove from office. Arrest. Convict. Imprison for life.
Once here they will never leave.
I just don’t understand why we are doing this, or why we should be doing this. To prove how liberal we are? Do we have an obligation to shield the world from disease outbreaks? What the heck??
I know this is a separate issue from the amnesty process announced last night. But, it seems that we are having a strong bias towards letting people stay in this country, regardless of how they got here or what they are doing here.
Obama has a strong desire to turn the US into a third world country. What better way then to have an open border policy.
This is just the beginning.
Reperations for Slavery
Gun Registration
Travel Restrictions
Election “Observers”
Enhanced Airport Screening
Unrestricted drug use
Mandatory 50MPG car
Global Warming Tax
All can be done with “Executive Order” if these illegal orders goes unchallenged.
He never rests, does he?
I think we’re going to see one illegal and dictatorial act after another between now and the swearing in of the next Congress.
Unlike the Executive Amnesty, this is not an illegal or dictatorial act. Congress created "Temporary Protected Status," and gave the Department of Homeland Security the authority to designate situations in which the status applies.
"What's wrong with black Africans?" (my daughter).
gives them 16 months to disappear.
impeach.
remove.
repeat.
jail holder.
Yes, that’s true, it wasn’t illegal. I wasn’t really referring to this latest move, though I guess I didn’t make that clear.
I do consider this action dictatorial, however, because he knows that Americans are very uneasy about having people from these countries come in and he’s just giving us the finger in his usual charming way.
Obviously once the West Africans already here are given permission to stay, their relatives will start arriving, as happened in Dallas, and it’s very likely that some of them will present a health threat to Americans. Barry must be very happy at this thought.
This isn’t even liberal, this is just stupidity. We do have a duty to be concerned about diseases for which we have no cure simply because some nut or reckless individual could either idiotically, or maliciously, spread the disease, and we could see damage to our country, amplified by panic.
Years ago, even the liberals in our country, would be fine with excercising quarantine, and common sense sanitation. Nowadays, it seems that people in politics have hubris beyond reason.
I have heard that all 50 states have been asked to submit to CDC an inventory of all hospital beds in their jurisdiction classified for Ebola capability, in three classes:
Level One: Safely isolate, diagnose, and treat for 12-24 hours
Level Two: Safely isolate, diagnose, and treat for up to 96 hours
Level Three: Full Ebola treatment for duration of illness
It is to be presumed that the National Biocontainment Facilities (Atlanta, Bethesda, Omaha, Missoula) will NOT be made available and that advanced notification of admissions will not always be possible.
This request (or is it an order?) follows the first purposeful transfer of a non-US citizen from Sierra Leone to the USA for treatment (he died quickly, in Omaha).
If you were paranoid, you would conclude that a plan is in the works to offer treatment in the US to citizens of Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia in fairly significant numbers.
Reminds me of a famous line from a game show:
Liberians and all west Africans, COME ON DOWN.

I’m okay with temporary extensions for visitors from these 3 countries, since sending them back duriung the Ebola epidemic could be a death sentence.
But we should stop additional visitors from those countries from coming, since that could be a death sentence for us.
Bring out your dead! The Dark Man cometh! Bring out your dead! The Dark Man cometh! Bring out your......
(Since all records of obama's past were lost in a tragic boating accident and fire, no one can be certain that the guy in the red circle isn't him...)
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
Thanks for the ping!
On the other hand, a German girl who overstays her 90-day admission by 1 day risks getting banned for years.
