Much hay is being made in the media about an offhand comment made by Senator Tom Coburn yesterday, when he speculated that national anger over executive amnesty could result in acts of protest.
Oklahoma Sen. Tom Coburn warns there could be not only a political firestorm but acts of civil disobedience and even violence in reaction to President Obamas executive order on immigration Thursday.
The countrys going to go nuts, because theyre going to see it as a move outside the authority of the president, and its going to be a very serious situation, Coburn said on Capital Download. Youre going to see hopefully not but you could see instances of anarchy. You could see violence.
Instead of having the rule of law handling in our country today, now were starting to have the rule of rulers, and thats the total antithesis of what this country was founded on, Coburn says. Heres how people think: Well, if the law doesnt apply to the president then why should it apply to me?
This immediately had various liberal activists, such as Josh Marshall, scoffing. The reactions range from amused mockery to implications that Coburn is trying to foment violence against the President. But isnt this a curious reaction on the part of the gatekeepers of social propriety?
Take, for example, the case of the impending grand jury announcement in Ferguson. How many people have we seen issuing dire warnings about the impending violence there? Yet nobody blinks an eye at that. The two primary reasons are fairly obvious. First, there is a track record to draw on. The protesters have already exhibited frightening levels of violence and there is no reason to expect that to suddenly become unthinkable. But second, and closer to the bone for the purposes of this question, is that a violent response in Ferguson is acceptable on some level in the media. You see, thats the sort of violence which rises up in righteous protest against the evil, predominantly white power structure of law enforcement. (Just refer to Claire McCaskills response the other day when she said that a rush to judgement in the African American community was understandable.)
Weve seen protests from largely conservative groups in the past, and the media should have far less to fear on that count. As to case number one above, the history of violence is largely not there. Tea Party protests are, by and large, very different from liberal uprisings and clashes. They tend to start and end on schedule and the protesters generally are careful to clean up after themselves afterwards. (Compare that to the average Occupy event.) On the second count, the media does not consider such protests, even sans violence, acceptable. They are angry and unreasonable. So any warnings of a conservative protest will not be treated by the media with the tolerance we see on display in Ferguson opinion pieces. Believe me, nobody will be turning a blind eye if a Tea Party member or amnesty protester hucks a rock at the head of Chris Hayes.
Will there be protests if the President launches executive amnesty? I wouldnt be surprised at all. But you can bet that Coburns concerns are off the mark in one regard. They wont involve violent gangs flipping over police cars, shooting at cops, looting stores and burning down strip malls. They will involve incensed citizens going out and registering voters to make sure this doesnt happen again.
I think it would be just great to see black and white Americans protesting together. If there was _one thing_ that could actually unite them, you would think that this would be it. Let’s face it - black Americans will be “disproportionately affected” (using liberal code words against them) by this...for years and years to come.
I’m still holding out hope for a general strike.
Illegals will get the jobs - blacks will get a new ‘community center’ named after some local black ‘leader’ or after MLK... Oh - and maybe a jobs training program...
He just threw all the black Dem’s under da bus. And they don’t even realize it.
Midnight basketball.
On a side note : Want to buy drugs? Then find MLK Blvd, St, AVE, whatever it’s called in whatever city, USA. There they will be. Not the legacy the man deserved, but the one he has aquired, thanks to the race pimps.
MLK blvd, Ave? lol. They are in every city & town, but usually only about 1 or 2 blocks long.
I wonder if a Bumper Sticker saying “DEATH TO THE EMPORER” or “DEATH TO THE KING” would be a problem?
“Illegals will get the jobs “
As long as blacks get all kinds of welfare they currently are getting they could care less.
I would re-word that to “Down with the Emperor” or something similar to stay out of trouble with the authorities.
1. First and most important is Article V. Even if we don't get enough to make it happen it's impending approach will put REAL fire under the feet of craven/backstabbing Republicans.
2.A General strike unless Congress does a short term spending bill with funding for this infamous act cut out.
3.A tax strike. We stop paying taxes . If they won't stop funding this tyrant WE THE PEOPLE will stop funding them!
Sad but true...
THe leftist media tolerates every outrageous act by a liberal so long as they 1: know its a liberal doing it and 2 know its for a liberal cause.
But A Conservative even doing so much as speaking out of turn and suddenly you would think he killed someone. Well ill be honest for a moment and tell you that ive had so much dictatorial rule either from the White house or their hand picked employees in black robes that I don’t really care if those traitors to our republic live or die.
They seem to spend just about every hour of every day scheming new ways to strip from us our basic rights to tradition self-government while replacing it with their narrow self-centered ideological demands as they try to force all of us to play only the role they dictate in their own ideoligical fanicy world of ‘perfect’ leftist order. At least to them.
Well I don’t want to live in their world by their own ever changing set of rules and they ain;t got no legitimate right to force me. Indeed their efforts have all amounted to an unending assault upon my rights and the rights of every other man-woman and child unfortunate enough to share a government with theses tyrants. and they are Tyrants because they observe no law but their own, and even then only so long as it suits them.
So no I don’t care about their order, their edits, or even their lives. They are all foreign occupiers of my apparently unrecognizable free country and Constitution. Only a traitor defends and supports such lawless invaders.
