[Democratic St. Louis Alderman] Antonio French Thinks Grand Jury May Indict Darren Wilson
St. Louis Public Radio ^ | November 16, 2014 | Camille Phillips

Many protest leaders in and around Ferguson have expressed doubt that the grand jury will indict Darren Wilson for the death of Michael Brown.

But St. Louis Alderman Antonio French says he thinks an indictment is possible.

“I have not given up hope that there will be an indictment,” French said. “I think the evidence warrants at least a trial. And I think ultimately that’s what the community needs in order to heal the long-term wounds.”

French does agree with the general consensus that if the grand jury does not indict Wilson there will be large-scale protests.

The alderman was a guest Sunday on ABC’s “This Week,” where he spoke of the breakdown of trust between police and some communities because the police racially profile them.

“You can’t paint with broad brushes, and you have to understand that there may be some people, just like any American group, that engage in criminal activity. But you can’t paint everyone in the same group. And there’s a consequence to when you do that,” French said.

French said that the breakdown of trust is especially dangerous in high-crime neighborhoods because police can’t be effective without trust.

The justice system isn't designed to "heal" the community, Antonio.

Regardless of the decision, there will be a riot.

Exactly. The system is designed to bring justice.

If there is a trial it just means the outrage continues for many more months.

They could find him guilty and give each protester a hundred dollars

They would then proceed.to.riot for a.thousand.

Do not give an inch to these people (that word is used generously)

Huh?? I wouldn’t trust anybody in a high-crime neighborhood by definition. Why should LEO trust thugs, lowlife, scum, and assorted swaggering miscreants?

There will be no criminal political prosecution. Texas Democrats who got Rick Perry indicted aren’t in charge here.

On charges of doing his job.

Where does that fall in the penal code?

I hope Wilson gets out of Ferguson. I’m surprised his family hasn’t been attacked, yet.

Police chief says, no indictment, Wilson keeps his job. If indicted, he’s fired. An indictment only means he will be tried, not necessarily found guilty. Why would he be fired without a guilty verdict?

You aren’t supposed to paint with a broad brush... Unless, of course, it’s law enforcement...or crackers...

I’m sure that since the episode occurred, there has been a lot less law enforcement in black neighborhoods across the country. What a victory!

Even if he was indicted there is no way in hell that he could get a fair trial in this country.

None.

“If there is a trial it just means the outrage continues for many more months.”

And THEN a riot if he’s acquitted!

It’s really cold outside. Would-be rioters would need some heapin’ big campfires.

Can we assume Alderman Antonio French also believed Brown had his hands in the air? And that a 300 pound man is ‘unarmed’? Whoever wrote this needs to add perspective...
