You don’t need to own a gun to learn to shoot. As a matter of fact the gun ranges in my state have courses for that, you can rent the gun. You can even have kids birthday parties at the range.

Fun for the whole family

Apparently not in WA with their new law that makes you a felon to loan a firearm to anyone without legally transfering it to them.

The 2nd amendment doesn't say a damned thing about that!

It is no substitute for freedom!

In Washington state you will need to pay the $45 and do a background check at the gun range to rent a gun if you are over 18 years old - it is a transfer. Even wanting to hold a gun at the gun store before you buy it is a transfer. And it needs to be done for each gun.

The law does not affect kids under 18 as long as they are with an adult that is supervising them. And I’m pretty sure that it could only be loaned to them at a visit to a regulated gun range. No plinking at the local gravel pit. And there is some question as to what does “regulated” mean. There are zoning laws, but not like there are strict things that the gun ranges need to follow in how they operate.

However, I won’t be able to let my 20 year-old son use one of my guns.

He’s talking about the fact that you cannot teach your neighbor’s son, or your son’s Cub Scout troop, to shoot because you commit a felony as soon as you hand them the gun.
