I wouldn't call McPain number one.

He's more like a big pile of number two.

He was widely reported to be thinking about it after his 2000 presidential run. I recall he actually acknowledged it.

A party that would then make him their standard bearer in 2008 can only be referred to as "The Stupid Party."

I have no idea what that means.

But his plane crashes and class position are on the net for you to read. And he even poses in pictures with radical islamics.

Before I moved to AZ two years ago I was baffled as to why the state’s Republicans had not turned on him. I understand it a little better now.

First in AZ conservative media, whose members he fawns over, he always comes across as an in-the-know pragmatist. He characterizes conservatives from other areas as having an immature or impractical understanding of the political process or landscape on any issue he is opposing. He is darn good at it on the radio talk shows.

Secondly, the Republican party is very fractured and factionalized with larger that life characters that tend to each have their own turf and ignore problems they create by their independent streaks. Guys like Sheriff Joe, our outgoing Governor and our outgoing Attorney General are lighting rods due to their independent agenda. That doesn’t mean they aren’t producing good results, but there is no party unity — its more free for all.

Lastly, there are a lot of older voters that while conservative still have a lot of loyalty to the people they know and have supported for a long time. It is pretty hard to get a guy who has voted for McCain three times who is about the same age to switch.

Hildy or others may have better insight, but that is how I see it.

One other problem you have is open primaries, where Democrats can vote for the Republican nominee.

What really angered me in 2010, was that I actually volunteered to drive from Los Angeles to go door to door to help get the other primary guy nominated.

You would have thought I had volunteered to go help Obama run.

Zilch interest. I got excuse after excuse after excuse even here why nothing could be done. And with that attitude, I can see why.

If I’m still in AZ in 2 years, McCain is my #1 target.

I’m sick of RINOs and career politicians. I’m sick of spineless ‘representatives’ who only preach about kneeling to the other side.

McCain will go, if I have anything to say about this.

If you’re that worried about it, Juan, perhaps you should sit it out in 2016. Retire to Mexico, your second home.

The stress could kill you....

No, no he didn't. The missile that stated the fire did not come off McLame's plane.

At about 10:50 (local time) on 29 July, while preparations for the second strike of the day were being made, an unguided 5.0 in (127.0 mm) Mk-32 "Zuni" rocket, one of four contained in an LAU-10 underwing rocket pod mounted on an F-4B Phantom II (believed to be aircraft No. 110 from VF-11[1]), accidentally fired due to an electrical power surge during the switch from external to internal power. The surge, and a missing rocket safety pin, which would have prevented the fail surge, as well as a decision to plug in the "pigtail" system early to increase the number of takeoffs from the carrier, allowed the rocket to launch.

Likely source of the Zuni was F-4 No. 110. White's and McCain's aircraft (A-4s No. 405 and 416, respectively) are in the right hand circle. The rocket flew across the flight deck, striking a wing-mounted external fuel tank on an A-4E Skyhawk awaiting launch,[1] aircraft No. 405 from VA-46, piloted by Lieutenant Commander Fred D. White.[2][10] The Zuni rocket's warhead safety mechanism prevented it from detonating, but the impact tore the tank off the wing and ignited the resulting spray of escaping JP-5 fuel, causing an instantaneous conflagration. Within seconds, other external fuel tanks on White's aircraft overheated and ruptured, releasing more jet fuel to feed the flames, which began spreading along the flight deck.

The impact of the rocket had also dislodged two of the 1000-lb AN-M65 bombs, which fell to the deck, and lay in the pool of burning fuel between White's aircraft and that of Lieutenant Commander John McCain. Damage Control Team No. 8 swung into action immediately, and Chief Gerald Farrier, recognizing the risk, and without the benefit of protective clothing, immediately smothered the bombs with a PKP fire extinguisher in an effort to knock down the fuel fire long enough to allow the pilots to escape. The pilots, still strapped into their aircraft, were immediately aware that a disaster was unfolding, but only some were able to escape in time. McCain, pilot of A-4 Skyhawk side No. 416, next to White's, was among the first to notice the flames, and escaped by scrambling down the nose of his A-4 and jumping off the refueling probe shortly before the explosions began.

McLame is an ass but don't spread false rumors about him on the Forrestal.

That’s correct, but McCain’s actions subsequent to the beginning of the fire were less than honorable if you do some research on it from credible sources.

He was sitting in his plane waiting to launch. What "less than honorable" actions could he have done? Got out of his plane and get out of the way?

Too lazy to search, got a link?

Here’s one link. There’s considerable more out there from reputable sources. Like John Kerry, John McCain’s actual performance was considerably at odds with the stories he has told about himself. And I’m talking about what he did in the hours, days and weeks AFTER the accident.
