At aNov. 12 news conference in Beijing, General Secretary of the Communist Party Xi Jinping and U.S. President Barack Obama agreed to notify the other side before major military activities, and to develop a set of rules of behavior for sea and air encounters, in order to avoid military confrontations in Asia. "It's incredibly important that we avoid inadvertent escalation," Ben Rhodes, a U.S. deputy national security advisor, was quoted by the Wall Street Journal as saying. An "accidental circumstance," he said, could "lead into something that could precipitate conflict."
Should we really be worried about war between the United States and China? Yes. Over the last four decades of studying China, I have spoken with hundreds of members of China's military, the People's Liberation Army (PLA), and read countless Chinese military journals and strategy articles. Chinese military and political leaders believe that their country is at the center of American war planning. In other words, Beijing believes that the United States is readying itself for the possibility of a conflict with China -- and that it must prepare for that eventuality.
Tensions are high not just because of Beijing's rapidly expanding military budget, or because the United States continues to commit an increasingly high percentage of its military assets to the Pacific as part of its "rebalance" strategy. Rather, the biggest problem is Chinese opacity. While it's heartening to hear Xi agree to instruct the PLA to be more open with regard to the United States, it is doubtful this will lead to any real changes.
Washington is willing to share a substantial amount of military information with China, in order to "reduce the chances of miscommunication, misunderstanding or miscalculation," as then U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said during a January 2011 trip to Beijing.

Where Obama toils and goes, trouble follows.
Obama could manage to cause a war against those 5,000 terra cotta soldiers from the Ming Dynasty. He’s the global leader version of Charles Schultz’s “Pigpen”, with a real pen and phone. He’s draped in a dirty sheet too.
I find this rather dubious.
But Pillsbury and Foreign Affairs are as mainstream as it gets.
Re Ben Rhodes and “inadvertent escalation”. When it comes to the Red Chinese, there is NO “inadvertent escalation”. It is all planned they intend to win whatever happens.
Rhodes is a total incompetent and should have been fired and shot for treason a long time ago (Benghazi, Libya in general, Syria, Palestinians, Iran, ISIS).
The White House if full of fools and jerks like him, enough to fill a federal penitentiary (my wish) or a major insane asylum.
Tell me if any of these below are sane, patriotic, non-delusional, tell the truth and are not pinkos or any combination thereof: (the military guys are just operational cowards who know better but have bowed at the knee of the Commissar in Chief instead of standing up to his unilateral disarmament programs and wimpassed military strategies):
Van Jones
Anita Dunn
Jen Psaki
Mary Jan Harf or whatever
JCS Gen. Dempsey
Jim Clapper
David Axelrod
Valerie Jarrett (one of the puppeteers of Obama)
Michel Obama
Hillary Clinton
Rahm Emanuel
Zeke Emanuel (Dr. Mengele)
Peter Gruber
Katherine Sebelius
Gina McCarthy and Lisa Jackson (EPA)
Ken Salazar (formerly Secy Interior)

Based on all observations of the petulant Won, only China is doing anything to prepare for war.
Or perhaps not. They are certainly preparing to do war with their neighbors Japan, Korea, Philippines, Taiwan, Vietnam, etc. And because of Obama's "leadership" they probably think we'll stay out of the fight. Obama has severely damaged our nation in so many ways. Just the financial burden we have may weaken our ability to wage a war against the Chinese in the near future.
That doesn’t make any sense.
Conquest of the “barbarians” is more important to the Reds than having them as trading partners for junk. When they have stolen enough of our technology and military secrets to make they Numero Uno in the world, they will strike.
Perhaps a first strike at Japan, So. Korea and Taiwan, with open threats against the Philippines, Singapore and even Indonesia is they don’t capitulate.
And what is the US going to do against a vastly superior in numbers and equal quality in weapons systems (esp. boats and aircraft, plus missiles) and a couple million man army that could sweep through much of SE Asia and India in a few weeks (Communist Vietnam might resist but I doubt it. Thailand, not strong enough, Cambodia, a basketcase, Burma, another basketcase, India - large army, ineffective leadership and air force (Pakistan would aid Red China). Bangladesh, another shithole that could be taken by a couple dozen well armed Reds).
The move will have to come in the next two years while Maoist buttboy Obama is in charge, or in the transition period when the next Republican president is coming into office. We are most vulnerable then, esp. during our Winter.
Obama has so emasculated our military leadership, strategies, and industrial base that it will take about 5 years of concentrated effort to bring them back to what we had 5 years ago.
The Reds will threaten to strike or strike when we are at our weakest and Obama has two more years to make sure that time arrives as he is leaving office.
Oh, and don’t count on the Russians/Putin as an ally against Red Chinese. He’s still a red inside and has a lot of pretty nukes that work so he can stave off Peking and take over what is left of Europe (before the Moslems do it, or the Red Chinese make them capitulate to them).
I think I met Pillsbury in Taiwan back in the 70’s. If it is the same guy, he was an anthropologist back then and reasonably sane (as compared to the rest of his leftist family and Foundation).
Oh, by the way, I also went to Chengchi Un. in 1971 with the present president of Taiwan/ROC. He was then known as Mark Ma, a nice and intelligent person. Unfortunately he has become too close to Peking for his country’s good, and his popularity is down near that of Obama.
Both our countries are suffering from weak leaders and poisonous traitors within.
Minor point.
Only China is preparing to win a war.
Rice and Rhodes, now there’s a powerful national security team. They have at least 0 years experience combined. I feel safe knowing our welfare is in such hands. It would be funny if it wasn’t so pathetic and dangerous.
That nick chewing mack-daddy’s going to get us all in a lot of trouble yet.
From his bio:
From 1971-72, he was a doctoral dissertation Fellow for the National Science Foundation in Taiwan.
He's longtime China watcher whose work I've followed for decades.
Why would one commmunist country go to war against another communist country? Aren’t we all “brothers in socialism” now? /s
My bet—he handed Hong Kong and Taiwan to Red China. Watch as the Red Army rolls into Hong Kong and the prison factories will be filled with freedom protestors making toys for McDonalds. China’s new navy will snap up Taiwan in a fortnight in a Trojan Horse attack. After that—on to Vietnam!
All this and no mention of the growing diplomatic and military closeness between China and Russia.
They have been enemies for years, lots of border disputes etc.
But they have bigger fish to fry, and they have time (for now) to toy with Obama and do what they can to hurt the USA.
But their big battle is coming where they will join together with each other and several other countries to come against Israel.
The US would lose a war in China’s backyard. Korea, when China was pre industrial, didn’t turn out all that well.
People should remember that war IS politics. The public is not going support a sustained conflict in Asia against someone who can fight back.
