Rajendra Pachauri, the Indian academic who chairs the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, recently declared that we have "the means to limit climate change" and that "all we need is the will to change."
That's a rather glib statement given that just five years ago, Pachauri was lamenting the fact that so many of his fellow Indians were living in dire energy poverty. In July 2009, Pachauri asked reporters, "Can you imagine 400 million people who do not have a light bulb in their homes?" He continued, saying, "with the resources of coal that India has, we really don't have any choice but to use coal."
Therein lies the story. While the latest IPCC report warns us, once again, about the possible dangers of anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions, the energy story of the moment is coal. And because coal remains an essential fuel for producing electricity in rich and poor countries alike, there's little reason to believe that we will see any significant decline in global carbon dioxide emissions in the years and decades ahead.
Indeed, coal may be the energy villain of the moment, but the carbon-heavy fuel has been the fastest-growing source of global energy since 1973. And the torrid growth continues. In 2013 alone, global coal consumption jumped by about 2 million barrels of oil equivalent per day. That increase was about 50% more than the rate of growth in oil use and about three times the growth seen in natural gas consumption.

Indian and Chinese coal is sacrosanct. Only U.S. coal is evil. See how simple this all is?
Without reliable cheap electricity there is miserable poverty, social unrest and political instability. The Chinese and Indians have known miserable poverty. They have absolutely no choice but to burn coal, oil and whatever they have for the next fifty years. Obama has not a clue.
ping
Ha....clue indeed....he wants to inflict " miserable poverty, social unrest and political instability" on the USA
Remember Obama and the dims lie about everything
Including global warming/climate change.
The Indians and Chinese do not and never have had any intention to curb their carbon dioxide emissions. They have economies to build. Global warming BS is strictly for stupid Americans and Europeans.
Plant more trees! :-P
Does anyone remember ENRON?
Back in the nineties ENRON was the crony partner of the Green energy movement because ENRON built natural plants. As a matter of fact, The Clinton administration convinced India to contract with ENRON to build three big natural gas power plants in India. The deal was made by both Ron Brown and Al Gore.
The three power plants were all one third of the way built when the regime in zinnia changed. The new regime that came in told ENRON that India did not have natural gas and would have to import it, but they had plenty of coal.
ENRON had not been paid for the work on those three power plants and they never were paid, not one dime. That was the beginning of the end for ENRON. I bet that India would find that they do have natural gas if someone would teach them to frack.

A better term can be found in my tagline....
Its for wealthy, spoiled, stupid, _hot_house_flowers_, liberal Americans and Western Europeans who are guilt ridden that they live better than 95% of the world. The wealthly lifestyle has made their minds go soft as a grape.
It is self flagellation and wealth transfer. As in sending the 3rd world money for (phony alleged) global warming damages makes them feel better.
Its all about feeling good for liberals living energy hogging, elite one percenter lifestyles. I promise you they consume a lot more fossil fuels that I do
The epitome is celebrity clowns like Leo Decaprio who is addicted to flying on private jets, going around lecturing others on global warming. Same for AlGore and many others
