Catholic bishops back Obama acting alone on immigration

The nation’s Catholic bishops are jumping into the increasingly contentious battle over immigration reform by backing President Barack Obama’s pledge to act on his own to fix what one bishop called "this broken and immoral system" before Republicans assume control of Capitol Hill in January.

In an unscheduled address Tuesday at the hierarchy’s annual meeting, Seattle Auxiliary Bishop Eusebio Elizondo, chairman of the migration committee of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, said the USCCB would continue to work with both parties to pass comprehensive immigration reform.

But, Elizondo said, given the urgency of the immigration crisis and the electoral gains by Republicans who have thwarted earlier reform efforts, "it would be derelict not to support administrative actions … which would provide immigrants and their families legal protection.

“Catholic bishops” do not appear to know very much about our country’s Constitution .

There’s no reason to be disappointed. All of the idiocy you see from the “Catholic” leadership in this country makes more sense once you realize that the Catholic Church isn’t a religious organization in the U.S. It’s an arm of the government — like those “state churches” in socialist countries.

They also don't know much about their own catechism, which says:

Political authorities, for the sake of the common good for which they are responsible, may make the exercise of the right to immigrate subject to various juridical conditions, especially with regard to the immigrants' duties toward their country of adoption. Immigrants are obliged to respect with gratitude the material and spiritual heritage of the country that receives them, to obey its laws and to assist in carrying civic burdens.

I do not see any proper role for the Catholic bishops in running the US government. But, if they want to do that, they should run for office and face the electorate, not just sit on their seat and make comments from the peanut gallery. They were not very successful with “faith and morals” either, as I recall. Catholic bishops should tend their own flocks and be sure they are operating within the law and avoiding conspiracy to obstruct justice.

Well then perhaps the catholic bishops need to be named in a criminal complaint, inciting to criminal actions, filed along with the impeachment proceedings against obozo if he does this? But for now we can start with stripping the catholic church of it`s tax free status, given it`s advancing the political dogma of open borders, then depending on obozo`s actions, go from there.

One auxiliary bishop says something, and suddenly he speaks for the whole episcopate?

Okay, then ... every time Ted Cruz speaks, he *IS* the United States Senate speaking. So let it be written, so let it be done.

The Catholics have a large communist/homosexual component that has NOTHING to do with religion but everything to do with this world and power. They are as Catholic as Hitler was a Presbyterian.

It's an arm of the socialist forces within government. Always has been, always will be. The only break with so-called progressivism is on abortion/contraception.

"A preferential option for the poor," among many other expressions in wide use by the USCCB, is code.

Must one serve Christ to be a Catholic Bishop these days?

Who REALLY believes Christ is advocating open immigration and adoption into a national welfare system?

When ‘giving’ becomes compulsory, at a level determined by the recipient, isn’t it ‘taking’?

Are you denying this to be the position of the Roman Episcopate?

That's interesting, because I fail to see how Eusebio Elizondo could be the chairman of the migration committee if so.

But the article does not refer to just one bishop. John C. Wester, Joseph Kurtz, Gerald Kicanas, and others -- all supportive of "comprehensive immigration reform" -- are also quoted.

This isn't the opinion of "some auxiliary bishop," and it is pointless to pretend so.

As a Catholic, I feel they have no business whatsoever sticking their noses into a domestic political issue that does not directly concern the Church nor its moral teachings.

Fk them and you Elizondo whatever yer name is.

They broke the law coming here

They committed felony after felony right afterwards.

They commit:

Identity Fraud

Social Security fraud

Welfare fraud

Food Stamp Fraud

Financial document fraud.

Housing fraud

Interstate wire fraud

And many more crimes, I’d go to jail for committing.
