The death by intentional dehydration of Nancy Fitzmaurice, a 12 year-old child with significant disabilities in the UK, is clearly a case of euthanasia by dehydration and not a case of withdrawing medical treatment.
I have a relative who lives with a very similar condition to Nancy, a condition that developed in a similar manner.
The British case, that became known when an article was published in the Daily Mirror on October 25, 2014, is based on a decision by Justice Eleanor King in August, to approve the withdrawal of hydration and nutrition from Nancy.
This case set a terrible and dangerous precedent as this was the first time that a person, who was breathing on her own and not on life support or suffering from a terminal illness, died by dehydration with the approval of the court.
Euthanasia is the intentional action or omission of an action to cause death, where the death is the direct result, for reasons of "mercy."
Since Nancy was not otherwise dying, and since the withdrawal of hydration and nutrition was done to cause the death of Nancy by dehydration and since she died by dehydration, this is clearly a case of euthanasia by dehydration.
This decision differs from the decision to withdraw hydration and nutrition from someone who is dying and nearing death.
This was a terrible legal precedent that approved death by dehydration for someone who was not otherwise dying, this decision also has significant negative ramifications for people with disabilities. Nancy was dehydrated to death, not because she was dying or nearing death, but because she was living with disabilities and her life was deemed to be "Not Worth Living."
The fact that Nancy lived for 14 days before dying from dehydration is a clear illustration of the difference between this decision to cause death and the withdrawal of hydration and nutrition to allow someone to die a natural death.
The disabilities rights group, The Autistic Self-Advocacy Network (ASAN) condemned the British judge’s landmark decision, calling it an “extremely troubling legal precedent.”
In their press release, ASAN pointed out that the policy represented euthanasia and it:
“targets vulnerable people, particularly when it is applied to children.”
“Euthanasia of people with disabilities is an extremely dangerous and wholly inappropriate.”
The ASAN press release also criticized the media coverage of the case. They stated:
“extraordinarily irresponsible, implying that the child’s disability should justify a decision that her life was unworthy of living.”
The group concluded that:
“People with disabilities deserve better.”
Dr. Andrew Fergusson, the chair of Care Not Killing Alliance stated:
“It is never ethical to speed up the process of dying by any intervention which has the primary intention to end life.”
“Weakening laws that protect the sick, disabled and elderly would put vulnerable people at risk.”
Charlotte Fitzmaurice Wise, the mother of Nancy, stated to the media, that even though she believes that what she did was "right", Nancy suffered a horrible death. She stated:
“Watching my daughter suffer for days while they cut off her fluids was unbearable.”
“She went in pain. It will stay with me forever. Although I will live with the guilt forever, I know I have done everything I can for her and she is at peace.”
The Euthanasia Prevention Coalition is very concerned that this court decision was not appealed to a higher court.
This decision approved the intentional death by dehydration of a child who was not otherwise dying with the effect of directly causing her death by dehydration. This represents an act of euthanasia by dehydration, which must always be rejected as an injustice to a human being.

And since the victim had ZERO say in the matter, it was actually murder.

An ugly, cruel and unusual way to put a victim to death.
Death Row convicted mass murderers are killed far more mercifully.
At least Society should treat such innocent victims with the courtesy and kindness it treats the most vile criminals with.
No?
God Bless America?
Whatever for?
The USA has become evil.
Is God preparing Russia and China to bring violent judgement upon the USSA (formerly USA)?
Note, this was in the U.K.
But the USA does the same.
Remember Terry S in Florida?
I remember the pain I felt when Terri finally died from dehydration. The people that impose that death on others need to go through the same torment so that they realize how much physical pain is involved. Yes, they should have to suffer the same fate or at least almost to death so they can live through the torturous experience and maybe then the imposers can become a member of the human society again - maybe.
We treat murderers better.
Horrible! How depraved! Our Lord must weep!
Apparently not unbearable enough. This murderess needs to look up the word "unbearable".
In any case, if you inject someone with a massive overdose of morphine it's murder. But instead you can let them die of thirst and that's okay? Sick, evil, vicious and cruel. I hope the judges and lawyers and politicians who allow this distinction all die of thirst. Staked out of an anthill would be even better. Add the doctors who go along with it.
I forgot to add that I’m not afraid of Godwin’s Law and there’s no need to waste time. The judge is a Nazi, no matter how much flowery language and legalistic mumbo-jumbo is used to hide it.
England and some other european countries are becoming increasingly amoral and almost suicidal in their attitudes toward life.
and coming to you via Obamacare.
....meanwhile mean nurses confiscate vases of flowers brought into hospitals for patients loved ones....(to avoid giving water to the patient)
And she knows this how?
I really hate this.
I have hated this since I first heard of it with Terry Schiavo.
Life isn’t perfect. Every day of your life isn’t going to be perfect. Some days me be pain. All days may be pain. Those days are still, in fact, a gift from God, and even those days are to be treasured.
Societies that engage in this behavior deserve to perish.
This is truly awful.
I will never forget Terri either. Giving food and water to another human being is considered a “medical treatment” that can be withdrawn without the person’s consent. This is a cold calculated move to empty the hospitals, nursing homes and hospice houses of people considered unworthy of care and comfort. Pure evil.
“I forgot to add that Im not afraid of Godwins Law and theres no need to waste time. The judge is a Nazi, no matter how much flowery language and legalistic mumbo-jumbo is used to hide it.”
Godwin’s law applies to Apple vs Google flame fests, not when actual murder is decreed by the court.
