Enough is enough. An important bloc of voters made their voices heard on Tuesday. Their message: Quit rewarding people who violate our immigration laws. They chose a sovereign nation over an illegal alien sanctuary nation, and they told politicians in both parties loud and clear: Put Americans first.
Will D.C. listen?
These voters are tired of politicians creating magnets for illegal immigrants. They're tired of preferential treatment for defiant border-crossers, visa overstayers and deportation fugitives. They're tired of the heavy costs and consequences of the government's systemic refusal to protect its borders and fully implement interior enforcement.
Pay attention, both parties in the Beltway: These aren't voters in a red-state bastion. They're fed-up voters in bright blue Oregon — a whopping 941,042 of them, to be exact — who overwhelmingly rejected a ballot measure to provide special driver's licenses "without requiring proof of legal presence in the United States."
When Democratic Gov. John Kitzhaber and radicals in the state legislature tried to push through illegal alien driver's cards against the will of the people, the people struck back and forced a full public vote and electoral accountability.
"Citizens expect our lawmakers to uphold our laws, not work at finding ways to circumvent them," said the group Protect Oregon Driver Licenses. "Oregon is the only state in the country that (gave citizens the) opportunity to vote on giving driver cards to those who cannot prove legal presence in the United States." If only every state had the power of initiative and referendum. Ten states, including California, Connecticut, Colorado, Illinois, Maryland, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, Vermont and Washington, plus the District of Columbia, "have had the law forced upon them with little or no recourse available to them."

Intersting that while Oregon is a liberal state, the vote was about 2-1 against giving driver’s licenses to illegal aliens. So even lots of liberals are against such an idea.

Yep, Trumka can see big bucks for unions in illegals but from the looks of this vote it seems some union workers are finally starting to wake up regarding illegals and jobs.

Not only did the citizens pass the no license law, we overturned the law the Governor and congress approved.

New Mexico doesn’t have the right of citizen initiative. I used to think that was a problem with our state constitution as prohibiting it was forced upon us as a condition for statehood in 1912.
As I grow older and hopefully a bit wiser, I believe that the low-information voters (as Rush calls them) in our state would pass initiatives that while seemingly beneficial at the time would later turn out detrimental to constitutionally protected rights. An example is Washington state in this week’s election where they passed gun rules requiring background checks for purchase and transfer of weapons, including between private parties and at gun shows. Numerous examples abound in other states, also most recently are marijuana legalization.
You make a good point. As a resident of WA state I could not believe I594 would pass even with the large number of leftist commies here but it passed fairly easily. It’s so far over the top that there are parts that cannot be enforced but the gun grabbers don’t care, it’s a foot in the door.
At the same time the citizen initiative certainly worked in OR because the lib politicians were determined to give illegals licenses.
....the biggest Democrat voter fraud tool is Motor Voter, where people in the process of getting a drivers license (ie a valid form of I.D.) are automatically registered to vote. Motor Voter gets them registered to vote, and a lack of ID allows anyone to vote in their name once they are registered. Lack of ID also allows people to vote multiple times under multiple identities.
