Turnout, a Scapegoat, Wasn’t Always the Difference This Time
New York Times ^ | 11-6-14 | Nate Cohn

Low Democratic voter turnout has been blamed for the decisive Republican victory in Tuesday’s midterm elections. It has quickly become the scapegoat, even though the Democrats invested millions of dollars in an expansive effort to persuade young and nonwhite voters who do not usually participate in midterm election to head to the polls.

There is no question that turnout among core Democratic groups was lower in 2014 than it was in 2012 or even 2010. Many Democrats would have won if turnout had resembled a presidential election year. But Democrats also lost in states where turnout surpassed 2010, according to an Upshot analysis of preliminary returns and voter turnout data.

Virginia and Colorado illustrate the varied reasons for the impressive Republican performance on Tuesday. Senator Mark Warner, a Democrat, found himself in a surprisingly tight race in Virginia, where turnout was unusually low. Yet Senator Mark Udall failed to win re-election in Colorado even though more Democrats voted than in 2010, when Democrats won a Senate seat.

Blah, blah, blah! Turnout in my county in Wisconsin was above 66% everywhere and as high as 83% in some districts!

If there was something to vote for these people would have turned out. They don’t like what they see from their party.

This was a heavily D+ electorate.

But as usual, the Left blames every one but themselves for losing.

They had the “right stuff” so it couldn’t have been their fault.

Maybe there was nothing these democrat voters wanted to turn out for, maybe just maybe they were sending a message to the demoncrap leadership that they are mad as hell and are not going to take it any more and that’s what all of the liberal media doesn’t and can’t accept, that their lemmings didn’t blindly run over the cliff edge this time.

Exactly! The democRATs and obama, in D.C., proved to democrat voters they were as screwed as the rest of America. The democRATs and obama are and were the gift of the democrat voters. It's pure Heck to understand the democRATs and obama hate their own voters but many democrat voters did. The democrat voters proved to the democRATs and obama they are completely stupid but not their voters.

“Has Debbie’s body been found yet?”

Ya know. She hasn’t been seen or heard from since Tuesday night.

I believe 2008 and 2012 will represent the apex of turnout for the Democrats for a long time.

Obama being on the ticket presented a perfect storm of opportunity for the various identity groups that comprise the left.

Youths were inspired by "change", but have now discovered that was a ruse.

Blacks came out in droves for the first Black President, but are slowly coming to the realization that not only have their lives not improved by the election of their "Savior", they have actually gotten much worse.

Union rank and file are seeing how their leadership are selling them out.

Women (amazingly) responded to the War On Women, only to learn who was really waging that War, and it was not the Republicans.

At this point, the Dems need a new victim group, which is why the push for amnesty is so important to them. But it's a dangerous gamble. That act will turn many of their other victim groups away, as the young and blacks see no jobs available, and women see their families' health and safety compromised.

And besides there was a reason they didn’t go vote, they didn’t like the state of government any more than we did. They didn’t want to vote GOP but they didn’t have any reason to vote for a Dim either.

That won't change, unless there is a significant effort to clean up voter ID and registrations.

Unfortunately, I don't see that happening.

Hell, I read earlier that Nanzi Lugosi said the reason they lost so big was “voter supression” presumably at the hands of those evil woman/children/elderly/environment/black/latino hating Republicans. Spawns of Satan that we are.

This guy, Nate Cohn, wrote article after article in run-up to the election about how the Dems were actually stronger than the polls...
