Akron, OH In a major victory by the Ohio TEA Party Movement, TEA Party Republican Candidate Steve Kraus from Sandusky, Ohio, has defeated Ohio Democratic Chairman Chris Redfern for Ohio House seat in the 89th District that includes Erie and Ottawa Counties. Redfern had been in the Ohio House since 1999 and has been State Chairman of the Ohio Democratic Party since 2005. Kraus made a strong but unsuccessful bid for Congress in 2012. He decided to run for Ohio House against Redfern after the Ohio Republican Party showed little interest in fielding a candidate in the race. Kraus got little support from the ORP even after early poling showed him with a small lead. The Ohio Citizens PAC did robo calls into the district as did the TEA Party run Ohio Republican PAC in and effort to get Kraus over the top. Kraus won 51% to 49%. Tom Zawistowski, President of the Ohio Citizens PAC, said Steve is a great citizen candidate who will faithfully represent the people of Erie and Ottawa county not himself or some political party. He ran a terrific race two years ago but I was surprised when he told me he thought that he could beat the Ohio Democratic Chairman. But he worked very hard and ran a great race and with a little help from his friends in the TEA Party he pulled off the biggest upset in the State tonight. Hopefully this will stop the whining by Republicans who claim we never go after Democrats. This win proves that the TEA Party does not care about political parties, we care about people and the way government serves them.

So, the question must be asked. We won top to bottom in 2010 including knocking off top Dem leaders at all levels and taking seats we’ve not had in generations. More of this last night. So, What the heck happened in 2012?
In 2012 more D’s voted than in 2010 or 2014.
Also in 2012 more D’s voted than R’s.
Some speculate that these extra votes aren’t D’s at all but speifically Obamavoters who will not translate, I mean turn out for, to the next candidate necessarily.
We weren’t quite picky enough about our candidates and the Dems. made them look like fools.

Greetings ilgipper:
Speaking only for my 2012 experience: How does anyone canvas for a GOPe candidate when Myth Romney’s legacy as Governor was unconstitutionally shoving gay marriage down the throats of the Massachusetts people?
Politics is battleground of ideas. Ideological battles are not be won solely through “air power” via mass media carpet bombing, candidates must have a ground game too.
One two minute conversation via door-to-door canvassing wins more hearts and minds than the hours of negative advertising ever buys. Across the river from us, entrenched incumbent corruptocrat Nicky Joe Rahall lost the ground war to a canvassing WV TEA Party.
Cheers.

I am happy that some sheeple know _something_.
Greetings Wiser now:
Respectfully disagree. IMHO, Karl Marx Rove’s PAC smeared the non-GOPe Republican Party candidates more than the ‘Rat opponents ever did.
Humans are not perfect. Every candidate has a closet full of skeletons. An entire cable network could be dedicated to Joe Biden’s lifetime achievements of political gaffes without ever repeating material.
When considering that a TEA Party challenger defeats Ohio’s Democrat Party Chairman for a safe Ohio House seat; this is an accomplishment which ought to be national headlines today.

Greetings veracious:
The derogatory word “sheeple” is found only in democRat and RINO lexicon. Many voters are too busy raising their kids to pay attention.
Knock upon neighbor’s door. Introduce yourself. State your favored candidate’s primary issue, hand the person a palm card, and depart with a “I hope Candidate X proves they are worthy of your vote,” this brings undecideds into the polling place.
And they smile when see you serving as a precinct election official.
Cheers,
OLA
This race deserves close scrutiny as there are many elements in it that capture what Americans are searching for beyond the boundaries of this district and beyond the state borders of Ohio.
An important fact to keep in mind: in 2012 24% of the electorate registered Independent; in 2014 42% of the electorate is registered Independent. That’s a seismic shift by any measure and is barely in the news because there’s no leader or issue that defines Independents other than it’s not democrats and it’s not establishment republicans.
Tea Party minded Conservatives who are committed to conservative issues have a special opportunity to resonate with Independent voters. Ted Cruz will win by a landslide in 2016 by taking 2/3’s of the Independents and all of the Conservative Base.
So, the question must be asked. We won top to bottom in 2010 including knocking off top Dem leaders at all levels and taking seats weve not had in generations. More of this last night. So, What the heck happened in 2012?
$$$$$$$$$
In 2012, the Republican Romney-haters didn’t get their perfect candidate, so they either didn’t vote, or, at best didn’t put their hear in it.
In 2012, Romney’s 47% comment was devastating.
In 2012, loose-cannon Senate candidates said some equally devastating things.
In 2014, we made a conscious effort to more thoroughly vet and coach the candidates. Like good chess players, we didn’t make mistakes, and we waited for our opponents to make their mistakes.
“So, What the heck happened in 2012?”
Romney not asking Obama about Benghazi during the debate.
The only candidate who could beat Obama happened - Mitt Romney/s
Greetings tang-soo:
Thanks for the update. A class act to the end, NOT!

Greetings Hostage:
Working my polling place yesterday as a GOP precinct Election Official, whenever an opportunity arises, I enjoy liberty issue discussions with the young Democrat PEOs at my precinct table.
IMHO, today’s Democrat leaning youth are more independent and libertarian minded than I was at their age; and they would probably vote for any presidential candidate that espouses the values Ted Cruz holds.
Frankly, the way I see it, 2016 presidency is the GOP’s to lose.
Cheers,

what Eccl said....
The GOP finally got its act together in vetting its candidates. It only good them nearly a decade after the disaster in 2006.
