We can hope that cases as they occur will find their way to SCOTUS on a fast track to ruling these measures unconstitutional.

I wouldn’t hold your breath. We’ve had similar laws in the books in CA for about 20 years, nobody’s overturned them.

If approved by voters, the measure would require background checks to be run on every person purchasing a gun in the state of Washington, even those who are doing so via private sales. However, transfers of antique guns and those between immediate family members would be exempt from the background checks. The measure also requires that dealers who are facilitating gun transfers - whether they are through the licensed dealer or a private seller - receive confirmation in writing from the chief of police or sheriff that the purchaser in question “is eligible to possess a pistol [...] and that the application to purchase is approved by the chief of police or sheriff.” Furthermore, the initiative would render it illegal to hand off a firearm to people outside a person’s immediate family, though exceptions are mentioned, including situations in which people are at a shooting range or hunting.

Massive money and touchy feely commercials for 594 and it worked.
I saw no opposition other than the 591 measure that had really weak commercials.
Thanks Bill Gates you SOB.

I refuse to sit idle and complacent on this. We need to fight back using their own tactics against them. They want to take away our God given right to defend ourselves, then we need to take away their luxury of armed guards. If a law abiding citizen cannot be trusted with a firearm, nor can their “security professionals” aka mall cops. It’s time to use their Marxist, Saul Aylensky, Utopian child mindset against them. Hand gets caught in the cookie jar, it gets slapped. Let them enjoy their Utopia, it will fold all around them. YEP I’m pissed off!!!!

591 is against confiscation of firearms without due process.

594 liberal crackpipe dream that more restrictions equal less crime (Detroit and Chicago are their proof it works)

That school shooting crossed my mind too. The voters who used that shooting to justify voting for I-594 show their government schooling ignorance. The handgun he used was his father’s, who owned the gun legally. I suspect the shooting was the result a lover’s triangle brought about by comments over a social networking website. It was two cousins competing over the same girl with three others involved in the dynamics of the situation. No gun registration scheme would have prevented the shooting. It is curious that every nuance of the shooting was reported except the dynamics between the two cousins. I wonder why that was the case?

The passage of both 591 and 594 will require that the courts work out the conflict between these two initiatives. It may cause a ruling that calls 594 unconstitutional.
The justification for I-594 was that its proponents claimed that states with background checks had less deaths from guns. That claim may be due to statistical errors being made

The sole purpose of both bills was to get your name on a national database as owning a gun, ANY TYPE OF GUN. It’s all about control. Thank Bill Gates for giving Wash State
queer “marriage” and now that that athiest POS for making it hard as hell to buy a WEAPON, ANY WEAPON!

One county controlling the agenda for the rest of the state.

Which is why I have advocated a plan for conservative areas of several states to secede from their parent states. Good candidates for this are Washington, Oregon, Illinois, and Pennsylvania. Maybe even parts of California.

591 would also have prohibited universal background checks if there was no national law requiring it.

"Maybe even parts of California."

Maybe?

Some folks have started a partition movement, State of Jefferson.

Take a look at a CA election results map sometime...I wish we could just push the blue right off into the DEEP blue waters of the Pacific.

We are dominated by the coastal lib scum...much like WA. Sigh...

And don’t forget the 10-day waiting period for handgun transfers/loans.

Yeah that will work.
