Veteran Democratic Sen. Mark Pryor of Arkansas lost his seat Tuesday to a freshman House Republican, putting the GOP a step closer to its goal of controlling the Senate for the first time in eight years.
Rep. Tom Cotton's win brightened an already happy night for Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, who won a sixth term of his own and was poised to become the Senate majority leader if his party could gain six new seats overall.
Cotton, an Iraq combat veteran and Harvard Law School graduate, joined virtually every other Republican nationwide in relentlessly linking his opponent to President Barack Obama, whose popularity has sagged.
Cotton claimed one of the six pickups the GOP needs, and Rep. Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia grabbed another. As expected, she easily won the seat of retiring Democratic Sen. Jay Rockefeller.
As Republicans awaited results elsewhere, they celebrated Sen. Tim Scott becoming the first black elected to the Senate from a former Confederate state since Reconstruction. He was appointed to the Senate last year, and won a term of his own Tuesday.

The Democrats in Louisville were “mad-er than a wet hen” when ABC called it for Mitch before the election was final. Like that would make a difference.
If we can get VA and Iowa we will need one state. But right now it looks like Roberts is having issues.
we need a Senate majority to impeach obama
great night for freedom
the democrat party is the most evil, most criminally corrupt, most marxist entity of all time
I’ve come to detest McConnell, and I’m desperate that he not be Sen. Maj. Leader, but I am curious about the margin.
If the Republicans DO win the Senate, which I’d still be surprised if it happens, why does McConnell have to be the leader?
Put a REAL conservative in the leadership position like Jim Inhofe, or Ted Cruz.
We can impeach Obama anytime we want in the Republican-led House; if we want to convict the President and remove him from office, we would need 67 votes in the Senate. That’s more than just a Republican majority.
They do seem to control the news with a very negative exit poll of Republicans in the House in Idaho I think it was, maybe a very small sampling.
The emphasis of any Republican win is a vote AGAINST Obama rather than a vote FOR Republicans.
WI too close to call. C'mon Scott! Too bad about Scott Brown in NH.
“Put a REAL conservative in the leadership position like Jim Inhofe, or Ted Cruz.”
Conservatives v. Republicans
Mitch isn’t even a fake conservative. He’s like these `Rah! Rah’ Republicans here on FR mooning over his win, defending him with such faint praise as, “Hey, at least he’s not a Democrat.”
Wow, now there’s an endorsement! He’s not a secret serial killer is he?

“Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell predicted the GOP establishment will destroy conservative insurgents attempting to unseat a trio incumbents in an interview with the New York Times published on Sunday.
I think we are going to crush them everywhere, McConnell said. I dont think they are going to have a single nominee anywhere in the country.
For conservatives, Mitch’s win is a lot like, well—it’s a lot like kissing Gram good bye ... and she slips you the tongue.
