Baghdad (AFP) - The Islamic State group has carried out a fresh wave of mass killings, officials said Sunday, executing more than 200 members of an Iraqi tribe which took up arms against the jihadists.

Women and children were said to be among scores of Albu Nimr tribespeople executed over the past 10 days in western Iraq's Anbar province.

Reports of the killings came with the country on edge as hundreds of thousands of Shiites prepare to travel to shrine city Karbala this week for a major annual pilgrimage.

IS, a Sunni extremist group that has seized large parts of Iraq and Syria, is expected to target Ashura pilgrims, and 13 people died in an attack on Shiites on Sunday.

Now, it’s up to the Kurds and the Egyptians to beat ISIS back down into the ground. The U.S. and Britain could do this, but their military forces are being mismanaged and weakened under obviously fractured leadership at this time. First, the EU and the UN have to name, shame and blame all countries who continue to buy the cheap ISIS oil products, thus sustaining this monstrosity to kill yet another day.
I’m not holding me breath on that one.

So why didn’t they fight back? Seems like all of these Iraqi victims are passively kneeling down and accepting their fates without any resistance whatsoever. What happened to all those guns that they had and were using against our troops in Iraq back in the day? I thought that being armed to the teeth was an integral part of Arab culture?

We should have thought about this potential outcome before Saddam was removed. Instead the White House gave Paul Bremmer big bags of $100 bills to pass out to whomever he wished. I wonder how many he kept.

Lots of people like Feinsteins husband made tons of money. Thousands of servicemen died and many more are disabled for life. What did this war accomplish for the USA, except costing us trillions? We could have kept troops in Iraq for another 20 years and spent another trillion but what would that have accomplished? The Middle East needs to take care of itself and we need to extricate our self.

If we keep up this war mongering, calling it fighting terrorism, while it creates terrorism in the process, it will break us, and force most average Americans to work until they drop. There will be no money to run America responsibly for Americans and no bailouts either. The Wall St hucksters got the bailout and we got the bill. If Obama wasn’t under their thumb they’d be in Guantanamo as financial terrorists.

Just the idea of another Bush or Clinton in the White House makes me literally sick to my stomach.

no way. If we learn to understand them, then we can have an open dialogue and then they wont hate us...

The last time the world saw anything like this was in the 1930s aND 1940s. Won’t we EVER learn that homicidal regimes need to be stopped dead in their tracks?

Really???

What kind of isolationist candidate you think is going to be able to effectively “circle the wagons” (protect our homeland) while we “hope” the middle east straightens itself up???

Seems to me cutting and running after the hard work to win is just so cavalierly thrown away because some people believe we can isolate ourselves from the threat overseas...

But hindsight is 20/20 right??? Easy to second guess previous efforts, because some people believe if we ignore the problem it just goes away...

What again, based upon your analysis, should be the results of your idea, if it were to be implemented???

Do you agree with Obama and his outstanding courage and application of “reasonable” foreign policy???

How’s that working out so far???

So if the ME turned itself into little molten glass beads because they can not work out their problems, would it be a plus or minus for the USA?

The only section of the Earth I really give a crap about is the USA. We have given away and frittered away too much of our wealth and resources elsewhere thinking it is somehow our indebted to China nation’s obligation.

Our devotion to unfree trade, crony capitalism, bail outs for Wall St, open borders and war everywhere has not made us a better country for most Americans.

Apparently one of the many lies told to the public by our government. It is simply illogical to believe that armed men just surrender to be slaughtered. The only other possibility is that they hadn't bought up enough ammo for their personal use in case of an emergency.

Hmm points on both sides of the argument here. I think we presumed we could go in and be liberating heroes and institute a successful repeat of the Marshall plan. Unfortunately, we were never "appreciated" for the most part and resented as an occupying force as mainly led by Islamic militant leaders. A prosperous democratic Middle East country would have been very powerful force for good. Iraq most likely has more oil than Saudi Arabia.

May the open-ness of “left field” give you a blanket to the cold wind that will continue to blow over what life you have left in this country...

You certainly have a mixed up bag of regurgitated (Main Stream Media massaged) tricks concerning all the ills this country extrudes...Yeah, we are a terrible country for influencing other countries to embrace freedom, and civil liberties, we are doing our best to maintain for ourselves as well...If that is only what you “really give a crap” about...

I do not believe for one second you would ever support extending out those values, however flawed our current situation is internally to extend out the buffer of protection free countries might afford us in security and allegiances that would be easier to maintain if we actually DID promote and project our way of life around the globe...

Sounds like you are awfully selfish and narrow-minded to only give a crap about our country...

How high a wall do you intend to support building against the threat if we just leave everyone to their own devices, and not try to help them out if the time comes???

If we do not have security, at home and abroad with strong allies helping us keep back that evil that is a threat to everyone else as well...

All that other “crap” you listed there will not be worth a hill of beans at the end of the day...

I hope the yoke of isolationism is light upon your shoulders, because people like you will be the first I (and many others) would blame if we get hit again, because we circled the wagons, and hunkered down to weather out the storm that keeps getting stronger if we do not ride out to meet it head on...

Oil??? Who cares about that??? ;-)

I happen to believe that resentment for our influence around the world comes from our internal cry babies, mostly within the Fabian Socialists who have been waiting for just the right political ambivalence currently permeating our local, state and Federal houses...Not so much abroad...

That has deteriorated so much because of such a feckless foreign policy, designed specifically TO destroy our alliances, and trust/credibility around the world that it has increased the risk to our homeland exponentially in the last 6 years...

What country in the Middle East, that has been democratically elected, become a very powerful force for good??? I would really like to hear who that might be...

Exactly. Instead, we opted for the pipe dream "democracy building" routine, which was doomed to fail.
