Spanish dad told to pay child support to daughter, 29

A Spanish judge has ordered a father to pay his 29-year-old daughter €500 ($630) a month in financial assistance, citing the difficulties under 30s have in finding work because of the country's crisis.

A man who has been been paying child support to his daughter for 24 years will have to do so for a little longer after a judge in southern Spain's Cádiz province ruled he would have to continue to support her until she completed her studies.

The man who separated from the woman's mother nearly a quarter of a century ago had gone to court asking that the child support payments be stopped.

But the presiding judge decided the assistance would continue until the woman finished her studies in two years time, noting both Spain's poor economic situation and the fact that the father in the case was in a good economic situation, Spain's 20 minutos newspaper reported.

The judge also noted the young woman was not entitled to any unemployment benefits.

"(The daughter is) 29 and still hasn't finished her studies, " a lawyer for the man told 20 minutos.

"These rulings are surprising, crazy and not normal. It's absurd. The normal thing is that he (the judge) would have said that's enough freeloading," the lawyer said.

The unemployment rate in Spain is currently 23.7 percent while the youth unemployment rate is over 50 percent.

A Unicef study published on Tuesday found that the proportion of Spaniards who were neither working nor studying had risen from 14.3 percent to 18.6 percent from 2008 to 2012.

No surpirse there; Europe’s economies now center around transferring wealth from older established workers to young people with no opportunities on the horizon.

Same thing is happening here...

If I was dictator of everything, my first act would be limiting judges and politician’s tenures and corruption would be punishable by stockades and public flogging.

That’s better than giving her a government grant like we do.

Let families pay for their own relatives instead of paying taxes to the IRS for redistribution.

In case you were wondering where Obamacare got its 26 year old cut off (for “minors”), it’s from European legislation, where that has been accepted for some time as the official age by which you should theoretically be supporting yourself.

This judge has just extended it, and apparently he’s just enacting what has been talked about among the left for some time.

Part of this is because young people really do have more problems making their way in such a heavily state-controlled economy, where people go into “pre-Retirement” at 55 and then end up making even more after their retirement than they did before. And part of it is because everything is so heavily state unionized that there’s no mobility, since nobody ever gets fired and once you’ve gotten the job, you can just kick back and wait for pre-retirement (when your duties are reduced but your pay remains the same).

Dad should quit his job and make her send him money.

The dad should appeal, and insist that instead of him, that this judge pay the support for the “child”. In light of this ruling, that would be justice, IMHO.

Better? It is the same thing, taxation without representation, but this time even more cowardly against an isolated individual, making it politically more correct

Minimum wage is also a a redistributive tax without representation of the customer, given that I have no choice in the say as a customer in this governement enforced tip.

So the system rewards entitlement at every turn, because politicians have an interest in getting their corrupt cut in this while the rest are screwed or killing each other.

Somehow I suspect the daughter, being 29 yrs old and still in school, will change her major soon.

Is it any wonder why Europeans (except for Muslims who are on welfare) stopped having enough kids?

Well, dagnabbit, why doesn't Spain just increase taxes, raise the unemployment rate and prevent employers from laying off workers?

Probably governed by a bunch of small government, low taxes, low regulation, wacko Tea Partiers.

I didn’t say it was perfect.

Clearly, it is better to pay for your own family and not pay for your neighbor’s family.

The age of consent is probably 13 but he has to support her for the rest of her life if she “studies”

totally ridiculous

Father needs to shoot, shovel, and shut up. I know that’s what I’d do.

I'm with you . . . but only if stockades and public flogging are the appetizer, to be followed by the soup course, the salad course, the main course, and dessert.
