The Louisiana Senate race: Sweet success
The Economist ^ | Dec 12th 2002

NEGATIVE advertising has its uses. It was ads mocking the stately Washington home of Mary Landrieu, Louisiana's Democratic junior senator, that forced her into a run-off after November's election. (SNIP)

A Mexican newspaper reported that Mr Bush had agreed to allow more sugar from that country into the United States. Ms Landrieu said this policy (which the White House denied approving) would hurt Louisiana's sugar-cane farmers, and promised to fight it. Her sudden embrace of protectionism was a bit hypocritical, since she and other Louisiana Democrats have scorned Mr Bush's decision to impose tariffs on the foreign steel that moves through the state's ports.

Cassidy needs to tell everybody except Vitter, Jeff Sessions and Steve King to stay away from his campaign if he wants a safe moderate victory.

No need for open border extremists like McCain and Jeb. McCain will even pretend to be a fiscal conservative taking a few token votes against farm, sugar and flood insurance.

Yep the gop should have won that one in 2002.

******

Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu overcame a determined GOP challenge led by President Bush
and won a second term Saturday, defeating Republican Suzanne Haik Terrell, the state
elections commissioner.

With 98 of precincts reporting, Landrieu had 624,214 votes, or 52 percent, and Terrell
had 587,423, or 48 percent.

If it goes to a run-off, she can also explain executive amnesty.

Even with that she came within 2% of being elected in the runoff.

If the entire LA electorate were freepers you’d have a point, they aren’t. I don’t think McCain and Jeb hurt anyone they campaign for.

Mary Landrieu Blames Obama's Unpopularity on Voters' "Racism”.....

"Hi there, Louisiana voters. I managed to unglue my lips from
Obama's *** to be here. That's why my mouth looks so funny."

==================================================

One FReeper compared Landrieu's last-minute goofball "racist" statement to an earlier California race----when the leading candidate told black supporters, "Remember it was an actor that killed Lincoln."

The goofy statement was made by incumbent Dummycrat Gov Pat Brown---
his opponent was former actor Ronald Reagan.
