A video to raise awareness of street harassment, featuring a Pittsburgh CAPA graduate, has gone viral with more than 7 million YouTube views since Tuesday morning.
For more than 10 hours, Shoshana Roberts, 24, walks in New York City as part of a hidden-camera experiment. She is spoken to more than 100 times by male strangers, with numerous greetings, comments on her appearance and one stretch where a man walks closely next to her for five full minutes.
The two-minute video, made by the group Hollaback! to raise awareness of street harassment, has attracted international attention since it was published on Tuesday. It is currently featured online on CNN, The Washington Post and many other news sites.
This is a typical day for me, said Ms. Roberts, noting that in the video she walked in neighborhoods such as Soho, Midtown, the Upper West Side and Harlem -- all places she would go in her everyday life. A lot of the feedback Ive heard is that this happens to so many other people. My story is not unique.
Ms. Roberts, who graduated in 2008 from the musical theater program at Pittsburgh CAPA and graduated as a drama major in 2012 from Kutztown University, now works as an actress in New York City. In the video she wears jeans and a black T-shirt and is filmed by a man walking in front of her, with a camera hidden in his backpack.

As my mother would say, “Was she braggin’ or complainin’?”
or trolling?
As a result of this publicity, Roberts will be offered a Playboy shoot, which she will accept, and then movie offers, in which she will appear nude. Don’t bet against it.
So she is just another Drama Queen
Quite obviously staged to get this chick some attention. The MSM seems to be eating it up - fits their narrative.
Ran across some esteemed young misses here in New York who equated holding a door open for them to sexual harassment.
*shrugs*
Stupidity should be painful and lethal.
Her clothes look like they’re painted on her and she can’t figure out what they’re all reacting to? Right.
Let’s see.. Ten hours, 112 ‘unasked for comments’, that’s one comment every 5 minutes of walking (or thereabouts.) Yes, absolutely constant harassment.
Of course, observations of the race of those who are most aggressive about the comments would be utterly inappropriate, including any suggestions that certain communities educate their men.
when shtf nobody will hold the door open for them. they’ll truly be happy then.
Not all of it for sure, but some of the behavior in the video is clearly over the line. Would anyone want their daughter, sister, etc. treated that way?
I used to work in NYC and saw it quite a bit. Also, perhaps it is a coincidence but the demographics of the men partaking in this behavior is identical to what I see in this video . . . .
In a zombie scenario, I’d use them as bait....
The minute or so I saw on the local news tonight, it seems all her harassers were of the Amish persuasion. ;~))
No surprise for anyone who spends anytime in an urban environment. Just be glad it was words, not deeds, but it was daytime on busy streets.
I would not want my daughter to be in that situation. But if she were, I would want her to be armed, trained, and aware of her surroundings.
She wants to be an actress, isn’t getting attention a good thing?
It would be an even more interesting an experiment if she used the same camera set up, in an open carry state, while openly carrying weapons.
I'm certain the numbers would drop a lot, but there still would have been “comments”.
Or even filmed the same exact route, this time with a male beside her.
I will bet the number of remarks drop even more, but there will still be some.
Idiots are everywhere!
It's a beta-male, predator vs prey thing.
They only manage to control themselves when alpha males, or males they perceive to be non-prey, are present and
outnumber them.
It's never “fun” to be on the receiving end of beta-male verbal passive/aggression.
OTOH, it can be entertaining to “teach them a lesson in civility” their mama forgot to teach them....
Not the kind of trolling I had in mind.....
