Trek sources: Mary Burke’s family fired her for incompetence

In attempting to explain her two-year work hiatus in the early to mid-1990s, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mary Burke has said she was just burned out after an intense period of leading European operations for Trek Bicycle Corp., her family’s Waterloo-based global manufacturer.

In fact, Burke apparently was fired by her own family following steep overseas financial losses and plummeting morale among Burke’s European sales staff, multiple former Trek executives and employees told Wisconsin Reporter.

The sales team threatened to quit if Burke was not removed from her position as director of European Operations, according to Gary Ellerman, who served as Trek’s human resources director for more than 21 years. His account was confirmed by three other former employees.

“She was not performing. She was (in) so far over her head. She didn’t understand the bike business,” said Ellerman, who started with Trek in 1992, at the tail end of Burke’s first stint as a manager at Trek.

Very interesting insight from a Trek manager in a position to know, and who wouldn't likely come forward like this unless he could back up what he says.

Not surprising - incompetence, lying to cover up failures, and stretching a thin resume....sound familiar?

...And then she went into politics.
I guess if you are too incompetent to work in private industry (and provide a product, or service, that the public wants) - you go into Government. And then you do what you can to extract your vengeance on private industry.
And thus the state of our Nation -- run by industry hating incompetents.

So based on her great management skills, she is clearly qualified to be a governor of Wisconsin. (sarcasm)

Wow, it’s pretty hard to get fired from a family business.

Right! Whatever position becomes available next, she’s perfect for it.

you make an interesting point - once a person washes out in the business world, how surprising is it that they take an anti-business attitude when they go into government? It’s payback time...

Shallowest candidate for Governor I’ve ever seen in WI - just looking at her while she speaks is a chore. It doesn’t really surprise me that she has a thin resume or that her record is one of failure.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but it sounds like this story was broken by a small, conservative blog/news site, and that the MSM newspapers didn’t touch it, didn’t know about it, or covered it up.

Trek no longer builds bikes in the US. What about the exported jobs?

Correct. And this is concerning that we seem to have a repeat of what happened with Obama in 2008.

How is it that something this significant is not uncovered by the media in Wisconsin? How is it that information this important to Wisconsin voters is untouched until weeks after early voting has begun?

This is a huge story that goes to the heart of the campaign. It is the case Walker has been making for a while, that she is incompetent, and this is left out of the narrative???

Dang. Now I have to trade my Trek bike for another brand. Didn’t know this commie owned the company. But, heck, all the bike companies are owned by socialists.

Scott Walker is being done in by his own superior competence and job performance.

The American political circle of life is incompetent, corrupt, Socialist Democrats taking over government and once in power running the country or the State they control into the ground.

Once the situation deteriorates to an intolerable level the people finally have had enough and elect competent Conservative Republicans to turn things around reverse the disastrous policies the Democrats put in place.

Once the competent, pragmatic Conservatives have turned things around and the economy is prosperous and booming, the people turn right around and hand the reigns of power back to the corrupt, incompetent Democrats so they can skew things up again.

It’s the never ending cycle.

It normally takes the competent pragmatics 6-8 to clean up all the messes the incompetence and corruption of the Democrats created.

This typically means at least two back to back 4 year terms in office for the competent conservatives before a surplus of property and good government allows the public to forget the ugly past and the reason they originally elected more competent conservatives which drives them the re elect a new generation of corrupt and incompetent liberal Democrats back into office .

Scott Walkers brilliant and near miraculous turn around of the State of Wisconsin was achieved in less than 2 years and so the morons in Wisconsin are seriously considering replacing him another incompetent liberal hack.

At least the word is out on how bad Burke is so the voters of Wisconsin have no excuses for electing such a loser once she runs the state back into gutter.

One of the comments on the article was very insightful in stating that if being European marketing manager for a bicycle company was so overwhelming that she had to take to years off to recover; how will she be able to deal with the much more difficult job of running an entire state?

How she’ll deal with being Governor is likely the same way she has dealt with other jobs: leave after one or two years and go snow boarding with friends in some foreign country.

The Dems know that, but they will have accomplished two things: return of union thug rule in Wisconsin and the destruction of Walker’s chances of running for the Presidency.

Calling her an incompetent hack is to give incompetent hacks a bad name ...

This issue has not yet made its way into the mainstream media in Wisconsin. Until it does this will zero effect on Burke.
