Inasmuch as I have no trust in the Russian government (any more than our own) the existence of a premise based upon a projected motive does not constitute establishment of culpability.

I posted an article on that topic in one of my follow-up posts in this thread. It is the post where I quote Litvinenko, the very last link in it.

There is a fundamental problem with the juxtaposition of these events as being under the sole direction of the FSB. In one case we supposedly have the Russians setting up a false flag operation with which to justify taking up a war against Islamists in Chechnya. And yet in another we have the FSB supporting Islamic actions worldwide via support of Allawite Syrains, Shia Hezbollah, Shia Iran, Sunni Pakistan, Sunni Palestinians, and the Sunni Islamic Brotherhood. It looks more like a "let's get the two Islamic factions fighting" effort than it does directed specifically against America. Given the demographic decline of Russia v. the fecundity of Muslims and the long hatred Circassians have for Russians, from a purely practical power politics perspective, can you blame them?

I have a lot on my plate. Unless a guy like Nyquist makes an explicit and clear case for a specific conclusion, this kind of information goes under "file it," as but a potential data point. It certainly isn't enough to form an opinion. Insofar as whether Russia has taken action to support Islamic terrorist actions specifically against American interests as opposed to (for example) making a mess of over a billion violent eschatological idiots on their borders, well, I don't seen enough evidence of that here to make a conclusion given the strong potential for agitprop from a "former" Russian agent. He might be, he might not.
