WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) today announced that communities and housing agencies throughout Illinois will receive a total of $26,128,915 in grant funding through three programs administered by Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to help develop urban communities in the area.
“This funding will give local development agencies around Illinois the ability to expand and improve affordable housing and other critical services in their communities,” Durbin said. “These federal programs provide invaluable assistance to those in need.”
Community Development Block Grants
The Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) program provides annual grants to states and local governments to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment and by expanding economic opportunities principally for low and moderate income persons. CDBG funding is an important tool for helping local governments to tackle serious challenges facing their communities. The following communities will receive CDBG funding:
HOME Program
The HOME program helps to expand the supply of decent, affordable housing to low- and very low-income families by providing grants to state and local governments to fund housing programs that meet local needs and priorities. HOME is the largest Federal block grant to state and local governments designed exclusively to create affordable housing for low-income households. The following communities will receive HOME program funding:
Emergency Solutions Grants
The Emergency Solutions Grants program provides annual grants to state, local and private entities to improve the quality and number of emergency homeless shelters. Emergency Solutions Grants are available for the rehabilitation or remodeling of a building used as a new shelter, operations and maintenance of the facility, essential supportive services and homeless prevention. Under this announcement, Cook County, Illinois will receive $756,420 in Emergency Solutions Grant funding.

Let your imagination run wild, and try to visualize what a paltry percentage of that swag will ACTUALLY go into housing or other REAL benefits for the poor dumb low information voters whose votes are being bought by announcing this new gubmint teat 10 days before the upcoming elections. Is there a bigger political whore than Dick Durbin?

Here's how the scam works:
Money for "employment training" block grants is made available.
A local organization (like an AME church) applies for the grant and get it.
The local preacher puts his wife/son in law on the payroll (at a nice salary) to administer the program.
Little or no money is spent until near election time.
Then the word goes out that you can get $50 for "employment training" at the AME church.
People show up, are handed ballots to fill out, are sent to retirement homes or around the hood to collect more ballots or a bused to a polling place to vote.
Shazaam! You have 98% turnout and 99% voting Democratic.
