Air France unions seek to stop flights to Guinea

Air France flight attendant unions on Friday called for a halt to services to the Guinean capital Conakry due to concerns about a "serious risk" of spreading Ebola.

The daily Air France Paris-Conakry flight "carries a serious risk of spreading the epidemic, particularly in our country," read a statement from the two unions of flight crew and commercial staff.

They called for a closure of the route until the epidemic is under control.

They also slammed what they called totally inappropriate protection from Air France -- which provided them with "a simple pair of gloves" -- and called for more suitable measures, in a letter to Transport Minister Alain Vidalies.

The unions underlined that other airlines, such as British Airways and Emirates, had suspended flights to Conakry.

France will on Saturday start carrying out health checks on travellers arriving from Guinea, one of the worst-hit nations alongside Liberia and Sierra Leone.

Air France suspended flights to Sierra Leone at the end of August, following previous union objections, but kept flying to Conakry.

The UN health agency WHO said Friday that 4,555 people had died from Ebola out of a total of 9,216 cases registered in seven countries, as of October 14.

Liberia is the worst-hit of all, with 4,262 cases and 2,484 deaths, as of October 13.Guinea, where the epidemic originated in December, had seen 1,519 cases and 862 deaths as of October 14.

Maybe this sort of action will stop travel to and from these places. If airline workers refuse to work on these flights, air service will have to be suspended.

If you were a flight attendant, would you want to fly to these countries?

I think unions are past their day, but if this is what it takes to contain Ebola in the root countries, so be it.

As I and many have said on this forum, if Ebola spreads further in the USA, it will have a serious impact on air travel and all the ancillary companies and personnel and hurt our economy which means jobs for Americans. But Obambi is "concerned" about the economies of those cesspools. And what economies do they have other than killing each other and now exporting a deadly disease?

They've had the support of Western nations for decades and what have they done with all that money and personnel support? Nothing, other than fight tribal civil wars. Let Africa rot.

Just refuse to board the plane.
Refuse to fly the plane
Refuse to service the plane.

Ignore the government. Let them fly the plane

Spoke with the wife of a pilot of a major airline a big pilots union thug troublemaker

She was trying to change the subject of Ebola that’s what liberals do when the truth starts getting annoying

She said oh I thought we weren’t flying out of those places. Then I said United flew the guy from Brussels to Dallas with stops

She said ‘my [pilots union thug husband] ( not his real name) will not fly those routes’

So that’s what you get from a senior pilot union ‘advocate’

The hell with all the workers when it comes to this

The airlines, the unions the workers.

They’re not seeing that protecting the public is worthy. They’re not even protecting each other

But that thug is going to see the worst holiday travel season since tea flew de Havilands but that’s just my guess

There was a movie made in the 1950s Death of a Salesman.

Will we see fewer traveling salespersons and business travelers on airlines?

I know about two months ago I was in search of a two week hospital gig to keep my license up to date. I was scrambling to get it done before the Ebola onslaught.

I don’t want to start a job at a hospital right now

I imagine that now people are starting to plan their year ahead with Ebola and some careless health care workers and pilots in mind
