We don't need an Ebola czar
CNBC ^ | 10-17-14 | Jeffrey Sachs, director of The Earth Institute at Columbia University

Posted on 10/18/2014 6:57:08 AM PDT by dynachrome

There is no case for an American Ebola czar, least of all another political "fixer" who has no expertise in public health. This is just another case of the Obama administration putting politics before substance, and cowering at the idiocy and vileness of the Republicans in Congress.

We already have an enormously competent national Ebola leader: Tom Frieden at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). We already have an enormously competent coordinator for U.S. Ebola aid overseas: Raj Shah, the Administrator of USAID. What we need now is a president who backs up his front-line team.

The reason he appointed one is that he needed someone to take the blame. He wants someone to defer to. All the while keeping the borders open.

I can’t believe that the president, having decided this is a potential public health threat, names a czar who is not a doctor, and has no healthcare background of any kind.

Couldn’t agree more. Czar’s of any stripe are political frontmen. Those calling for them are as idiotic as those appointing them.

Well, keeping borders open, and allowing our international airports to admit those from the “hot spot” countries are part of the problem. But I realize the liberal view is that these are not problems.

Yep, could well be that this guy will serve as a czar, then be the fall guy if this gets really bad. Thus deflecting any responsibility from Obama.

We have learned that nothing is ever the responsibility or fault of Obama and his policies. There is always some outside force, or some other person, or policies of some former president, which are to blame for anything bad that happens during the Era of Obama.

For months Obama has done nothing to protect America from Ebola.

Our borders are obscenely open. North, south, east and west. Particularly our southern border.

Now a terrible, incurable fatal disease is introduced into America by someone, he dies, infects at least two healthcare workers, yet our borders remain wide open, and finally (now months later) Obama “steps up” by appointing a political appointee to this, arguably the single most important job appointment he has ever made.

Obama is not serious about Ebola.

This is a huge problem.

I am completely ready to start discussing impeachment.

If Obama doesn’t greatly improve, very quickly, we need a new guy.

For real.

Obama STOP MESSING AROUND.

We don’t need this Ebola Czar that’s for sure.

How rediculous, he reports to Susan Rice.

Obama has said that sometimes the “optics” don’t look good for him.

For all of their political skills, and knowing the media will carry their water, what exactly did they think the optics would be, of appointing a Democrat political hack to this job?

The optics would be very different if the appointee were an experienced medical professional. Right???

We don't need an Ebola czar

Someone must have whispered that fact in Obama's ear, because they changed Klain's title almost immediately after his name was announced. He suddenly became Ebola Response Coordinator.

I can’t believe that the president, having decided this is a potential public health threat, names a czar who is not a doctor, and has no healthcare background of any kind.

He saw another opportunity to seat an un-elected "czar" who would have power to further infringe the rights of the People. It would have been counterproductive to his intentions to seat someone who was actually qualified per the job title. Why change now - none of his czars are position-qualified; they are all left-wing hacks who further his agenda of the destruction of Freedom.

Stupid and ignorant leaders (i.e. Obama) can only make stupid and ignorant decisions. Obama is the master of stupidity.

You might want to sit down.

Basically, an ebola-czar is a guy with a White House function only. He has not agency. He has no standing over the CDC. He has no standing over US Department of Health Services. He has no authority over any state or federal health-related agency. He has no standing to meet with French, German, British or international agencies. He has no approval from the Senate.

Basically....all he can do is sit there and gather daily traffic, and lead the conversation in the room when the President enters with the CDC folks. That’s it.

For that, he’s basically worthless. If I were a national media unit....I’d just skip over him and ask for CDC representatives to speak and talk. If they are denied by him or the White House....I’d ask the Senate what’s being hidden.

Sadly, it’s just a political game, and nothing more....just for looks.
